Two factors explain why Jubaland, which was always an integral part of Britain’s ‘Greater Kenya’, was hewed out of Kenya. One is the failure to pacify the Kenyan colony of Jubaland and bring back the Marehan and other Somali groups under effective colonial control in the aftermath of the Marehan Somali rebellion from 1913 to 1914. Second, the British ceded Jubaland to Italy in July 1925 ostensibly as a belated reward to Rome for joining the allied cause in the First World War.
Propelled by clan loyalties, faith and markets, global Somalia is torn by clan rivalries. Since its entry into Somalia to fight the al-Shabaab in 2011, Kenya is perceived as taking sides in power tussles involving rival clans along its border with Somalia.
Kenya needs a grand strategy to promote reconciliation between rival clans in Jubaland, foster a broad-based cooperation against Al-Shabaab and safeguard its national integrity and sovereignty.

Imagine what Mr. Kagwanja could have contributed to lasting peace and goodwill between Kenya and Somalia and between Jubbaland and Kenya had this maturity and rationality been his guide.
Today, 10+ years of propping up Madoobe is lost investment. Madoobe is no closer to realizing his authority or legitimacy over the land and people of Jubbaland any more today than when he was a Ras Kamboni terrorist with Hassan Turki.
Whoever advised him to support Madoobe because he could realize [his] "Jubbaland" over the Marehan majority of Jubbaland territory took advantage of and unconscionably manipulated the state of Kenya.
They literally "co-opted" Kenya in the most nefarious, exploitative, and predatory way possible.
Peter Kagwanja's intellectual maturity, growth, and evolution on Jubbaland/Somalia state of relations with Kenya tells me he, Mr. Kagwanja, understands he was egregiously used for the purposes of using the Republic of Kenya.
Who used him?
Kagwanja knows.
What for?
Kagwanja knows.
