Believe it or not this country the Somali Republic was once a powerhouse on the International stage in days gone by and people used to be proud of it. Somalis living in the Gulf states used to brag about being Somalis and refused to get citizenship in the 1970s Abu Dhabi when we were the only community offered passports by the Emir.

Gone are the days when our army stood 30 km from Addis Abba.
Gone are the days when Jimmy Carter former US president used to tell his aides I want Somalia to be my friend.
RIP Somalia nice to know you. She is gone guys.

I'd this is true, and I don't doubt it, then indeed this is a new low for Somalia.

It ranks worse than when the Burundian president met Farmaajo in a tracksuit.

In this world your treated how you are, and Somalia is a beggar nation without any sovereignty.

The only positive is that your average Somali has high self esteem......maybe too high.

Under the right circumstances Somalia can rise rapidly and surpass every country in the region.

This is a very fascinating, true statement and something I also noticed though but you undersold it. It is actually arrogance, and to make it worse misplaced arrogance. High self esteem should serve as a regulator to where you will not let yourself fall beyond a certain point, and because you have high self esteem you will not let yourself fall too low.


A Somali will be in the most pitiful situation and still find time for laandheer, laangaab, nasab bla bla arrogance. According to the hadith one of the 3 people Allah will not speak to on the day of judgement is a poor person who’s arrogant which describes a huge chunk of Somalis if not all.


So I disagree 100% misplaced arrogance is actually disastrous because it puts you in a foolishly deluded state of undeserved satisfaction!

Most Somalis end up leaving their job or terminated just because they don't like to be told what to do . That's why they all prefer to be self employed,

I agree absolutely. However, we can extract some positives from these delusions of grandeur.
Somalis are naturally optimistic and upwardly mobile.
If we can eliminate insecurity and chaos across the country and put the masses to work, Somalia can quickly rise, as in the period 1969-77.
Khat and liquor would have to be eliminated as a prerequisite though.
