Somalia must come to value that there are some things worth saving.
Lugh has a terrible history in the civil war. It is where my abti died who was the younger brother of my mother. He was Marehan/Isaaq Gaalshireedle born near Galaadi. He died in Lugh in 1992 helping defend his tol from a combined Hawiye USC-Rahanwayn RRA-Dir SSNM attack on Lugh.
Lugh since the 90's has been a peaceful, idyllic town where community cohesion and even multi-clan shared living had retaken root. This is stunning even for Marehan who, having been the very center of Somalia's civil conflict, was in open conflict all over their clan border although this is for a separate topic.
Clans fight and recurrent cycles of terrible conflict are endemic in Somalia, but the nature of Lugh's evolution on social cohesion and harmony and the uniquely ugly impression of escalated xenophobia left by the images of the smoldering ruins of parts of Lugh unmistakably implicating a targeted 'group' present a compelling argument that this would be the occasion to try to salvage something if Somalia were to find something valuable enough to salvage.
Gains on reconciliation are worth salvaging.
Gains on community cohesion are worth salvaging.
Gains on neighborliness as Somalis, regardless of clan origin, are worth salvaging.
The majority of Marehan in Lugh are Hassan Gaalshireedle and in fact Reer Hassan is the Marehan clan that is at the center of this conflict, but this case regarding the level of response implicated by the depths of xenophobia and incivility imparted by the burnings require a united 'Sade Mareexaan' compensation on this matter to property owners from Macalimwayne, Gasaargude and others who are legitimate claimants of injury resulting from this damage.
And 'Sade Mareexaan' should extend Sabeen to Rahanwayn or Digil & Mirifle as an expression of 'profound regret' as Somali Muslim countrymen.
This is Islamic, this is Somali, this is Just & Decent & Right.
Marehan, not just Hassan & Isaaq, but Awsame & Awmidig, should pay Xaal and Sabeen for the Lugh property burnings.
