K9 named Top Ten Rappers of 2005

Three more hip-hoppers who fascinated in 2005Davey DIn my last column (Dec. 2), I started counting down my list of the 10 most fascinating people in hip-hop during 2005.

The list included

(at No. 10) Grammy nominee Kanye West,

(9) Mississippi rapper David Banner and

(8) local rapper-activist Shamako Noble. Here are my next choices:

7. MC Lyte. I salute this pioneering Brooklyn-born MC for going the extra mile in 2005. First, she published a book of poetry and inspiration, ``Just My Take,'' for young women. Next, she teamed up with rapper-turned-filmmaker Nefertiti to do a documentary on women in the music industry. And she collaborated with longtime rap artist Yo-Yo to help relaunch the Intelligent Black Woman's Coalition.

6. K'naan. The Somalian-born rap star, who now lives in Toronto, is well-known in Brazil, South Africa, Kenya, Cuba, the United Kingdom and, of course, Canada, whose Urban Music Awards recently named him hip-hop artist of the year. His fans are keenly aware of the ideas that motivate the Dusty Foot Philosopher, which is not only his nickname but also the title of his album.
Hits such as the controversial ``Soobax'' (about warlords in Somalia) and ``What's Hardcore'' (about the meaningless quarrels within the hip-hop community) have earned K'naan not only respect but also a huge international following.
He can rock a crowd while teaching listeners that Somalia is home to the Battle Poets, who believe words can be weapons in war. K'naan was shooting a rifle at the age of 8 in war-torn Somalia, where his father was a major political figure and a skilled Battle Poet.
K'naan's business partner and manager, Sol Guy, notes that K'naan's message is relevant globally. His political and social ideas are presented in their popular documentary series ``4 Reel.'' So far, they have chronicled the hip-hop and political scene in Venezuela, Brazil, Peru, South Africa, Kenya, India, Spain and Britain. Now they are en route to Djibouti to make another documentary. He maybe one of the most "fascinating" rappers of 2005, but he surely isn't one of the most highly paid Rolling Eyes

. The fukker needs to gain atleast 100 lb if he expects people to take him seriously, this is rap after all not rock-and-roll..you can't be 45 lb and expect people to take you seriously. Sure theres Snoop, but even he has 50 lb on K'naan...the fukker is skinny, has no talent, and is exploiting the situation in Somalia so he can get ahead in the business. I for one am 100% he isn't serious about any of the shit he spits, its all a game to him, he says what "his people"(you know the ones he works for) tell him to say, he has a ghostwriter, and by continously talking about being a 'refugee he stands out thus making him "fascinating". His 15 minutes of fame were up after long ago and I think I speak for the world when I say THANK GOD!!! Very Happy

K9 is facinating ofcourse but he is not the best somali rapper he just the one that has more exposure.

Rapping is a skill like poetry and it takes intellectual to write and regress words and make them in to metaphors and simili's stuff you learn in school so please dont be an impotent brother and show support.

I aint no Rapper and I aint trying to become a Rapper but Aint nothing wrong with Rapping either. To who ever thinks "rapping is for nigger" Hey kids Rap is universal and is for every body, you could be A'rap with a Khamiiz or a CHINESE and be freestyling with Ingles or your own native language.

K9 has may be an OK lyrics for a young East-African Rapper but there is a problem with his voice because every one I know has some thing against his voice and to be a hardcore male rapper in the Music Industry you need to sound like K-R, Xzibit, SHYNE, DYLON or BUSTA'BUST for real when I grab the MIC I sound harder than this Cat k9 Very Happy

. No disrespect to K9 but to me FOXY BROWN of BK sounds harder than him when she is free styling.

Hey people I knew this homei K-R since back in the days he is from the streets and is so real, even though he a G he doesnt act hard and that is what I always liked about him. So go and listen to his music I already check out all his tracks man, he is spitting hot firrrrrrrrrrrrrrrre and his beats are the illest.

All of you are haters period. By the way K'naan's Music is different and that is why most of the people like his musci. But for those of you who are gangster wana bees wouldn't understand it anyway.

The other Somali niggers who are rapping are average and they are not bringing any new stuff on the table perhaps that is why we haven't heard of them.
