At a Eid party,Ahmed walks in with an average looking brown haired woman.Then a couple of minutes later,heads trun when Mahamed walks in with a black-haired beauty.Why does everyone notice the beauty instead of the ordinary-looking woman?Could it be a case of appearance discrimination?

Appearance discrimination is defined as a "failure to address or correct discrimination based on appearance,dress,or grooming.Drawing on this definiton,the situation at the Eid partyseems to be such a case.This raises several question questions.Are good-looking individuals always at an advantages or disadvantages occur? Most improtant are we as a society the ultimate loser in the game of appearance discrimination?

Most people stare at this "black haired beauty" you described beause they perceive her to be... well beautiful, whether or not she is a "beauty" inside has yet to be seen by these people i assume. Perhaps the ordinary women has more charm and charisma, but then... may be not. I think we all discriminate at some level depending on the circumstances that we are placed....this perhaps is one of our many mechanism to survival.

In life..where one person discriminates..the other does not...hence the saying "true beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder" and the fact that both the ordinary women and the more attractive one both have a bloke proves that... dont you think?

Since attractive persons are generally treated more favorably in life,they tend to develop high levels of self-esteen and self-confidence because of that they provide greater potential to succeed in life.Where in the other hand,an unattractive person is generally treated less favorabley in life,they tend to evolve low levels of self-esteem and self-confidence .These low levels of self-esteem and self confidence detract from their chance of succeed in life.

Saayda have you notice that attractive people have been found to be more effective in the sales,marketing,public relations,t.v.,commercials,etc.

I reckon you're grasping at straws here. beauty is a very subjective notion that is hard to define. What I think is beautiful might not be so in your opinion and vice versa.

We Somalis have been told and believed wholeheartedly I am ashamed to concede that, the fairer the person's skin complexion, the more attractive he/she is. A load of utter tosh.

Have said that, no one likes very ugly people. I am talking about those that make you feel a bit unwell if you stare at them for a long time.

look at him/ her once a while but avoid the never ending eye contact coz that makes them nervous and you know where you gonna end up ;

Dangirl, perhaps attractive people tend to do better in life based on thier looks, but im sure in general they still need the intelligence to do whatever job they do...unless they are a model. ...You know i read in the sunday times that the more attractive you are, the more you tend to lie....dunno what they base that information on,i reckon a high-flying unattractive person wrote that.

But seriously, like what i and Lord Diplock said.....the issue of whether one is attractive or not is up to the individual. At the end of the day...our religion is what counts...Allah is not going to use my looks as a determining factor of whether i go to hell or heaven.

I dont really think that all the unattractive people are doomed and will suffer from low-self esteem and never reach their potential in life etc...I think if a person wants to succeed and be the best they can..nothing will stop them. Successful people always overcome the negative whatever it is, including their looks (if they are unattractive)...look at some ofl the politicians..man they run the coutry if not the world and they are not all attractive people are they.

Darling there is a point to that. Haven't you ever lied about your name(God forbid your friend calls you by the fake name while you there and you don't turn or you scream what?) when some moron is bothering you every time you out and about? Let's not forget lying about where you're abouts or what you do for living (if you have an interesting job, you have to make up some boring job). The lies only take place on the weekends when people loose their minds for some reason well the reason is the weekend is always the mating days of the week, it's like people have ... you know ... only them two days of the week.

When i made this topic the religion part wasnt in my mind at that time.I was reffering to how western world(since we live here now) how they value looks than anything.
