I was once telling this ethiopian guy about our somali history and how ahmed Gurey almost completly destroyed ethiopia back around 200 yrs ago, and the guy shockling told me that Ahmed gurey is not somalian, that Ahmed Gurey is turkish, i felt upset that this guy is trying 2 undermine my history.

Anyways what u somalis think about this issue, i personnaly think that Ahmed gurey is 4rm one of the major Hawiya clans possibly Haber gider as they obviously have he's warroir traits.

Galia, I’ve heard he was Somali but am not sure. Maybe the ethiopian guy was just saying that. Anywayz, I think Somalia was part of the Ottaman empire at that time... so he could have been Turkish. Whatever he was he was a Somali hero.

Am telling u this yeah, if Ahmed Gurey was infact somali he must of been from within hawiya, cos at that time xamar was only run and populated by Hawaiyas espicallythe Haber Giders whilst the other somali peps including the meherans were simple nomadic people that lived in the country side at thet point of time.
Also it is well documented that the Ahmed gurey resided in xamar, where he ruled and he had he's family there, so the desendents of Ahmed Gurey must have only been hawiya.

Also it is a well known fact that the hawiya clan is by large the most numerical superior somali clan in somalia, even the Abgaal are greater in number then the meherans and the Mjs put together not mentioning the rest of the 66.66 of the hawiya clan.

It is also well known that the bulk of islamic forces at that time where based in xamar, these forces were later stationed or sent to various parts of the country to counter-threat the incursions made by ethiopian forces.
