What does this Sahih Hadith mean?
Sahih Bukhari, Volume 1, Book 2, Number 33:
Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Amr:
The Prophet said, "Whoever has the following four (characteristics) will be a pure hypocrite and whoever has one of the following four characteristics will have one characteristic of hypocrisy unless and until he gives it up.
1. Whenever he is entrusted, he betrays.
2. Whenever he speaks, he tells a lie.
3. Whenever he makes a covenant, he proves treacherous.
4. Whenever he quarrels, he behaves in a very imprudent, evil and insulting manner.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
In particular the 4th characteristic. Is it mean you're a hypocrite if you badmouth others?
Please lets have scholarly civil discussion, no acrimony. I have bad headache today. Drop your 2 cents with no fuss. Thank you.

I'd say, based on those four criteria, everyone I've met (mostly Somali though) is a hypocrite. In many cases including yours truly.
Four apparently simple characteristics but hard as .... to be all without alienating everyone (telling the truth no matter what), being made into a laughing stock (quarelling politely), making people nervous and malicious simultaneously (being the only one who keeps his/her word and thus giving others cases of serious guilty conscience), etc etc.
Let's pray we don't end up in the ranks of the hypocrites.
ashlee, sweaty, what you think the hadith means? Do you agree that the Hadith says Lioness is hypocrite for incessantly using foul language. Please share your thoughts.
You do not need anyone to tell u what the hadish is saying, 'IT DOES WHAT SAYS ON THE TIN'
You're an atheist and I dont think you should be so concern with hadiths, you have already belied them and questioned their veracity and more disgracefully, mocked them.
