Iran to hang teenage girl attacked by rapists

Tehran, Iran, Jan. 07 – An Iranian court has sentenced a teenage rape victim to death by hanging after she weepingly confessed that she had unintentionally killed a man who had tried to rape both her and her niece.

The state-run daily Etemaad reported on Saturday that 18-year-old Nazanin confessed to stabbing one of three men who had attacked the pair along with their boyfriends while they were spending some time in a park west of the Iranian capital in March 2005.

Nazanin, who was 17 years old at the time of the incident, said that after the three men started to throw stones at them, the two girls’ boyfriends quickly escaped on their motorbikes leaving the pair helpless.

She described how the three men pushed her and her 16-year-old niece Somayeh onto the ground and tried to rape them, and said that she took out a knife from her pocket and stabbed one of the men in the hand.

As the girls tried to escape, the men once again attacked them, and at this point, Nazanin said, she stabbed one of the men in the chest. The teenage girl, however, broke down in tears in court as she explained that she had no intention of killing the man but was merely defending herself and her younger niece from rape, the report said.

The court, however, issued on Tuesday a sentence for Nazanin to be hanged to death.

Last week, a court in the city of Rasht, northern Iran, sentenced Delara Darabi to death by hanging charged with murder when she was 17 years old. Darabi has denied the charges.

In August 2004, Iran’s Islamic penal system sentenced a 16-year-old girl, Atefeh Rajabi, to death after a sham trial, in which she was accused of committing “acts incompatible with chastity”.

The teenage victim had no access to a lawyer at any stage and efforts by her family to retain one were to no avail. Atefeh personally defended herself and told the religious judge that he should punish those who force women into adultery, not the victims. She was eventually hanged in public in the northern town of Neka.

Why are they interested in what goes on in Iran all of a sudden?

This is so focking typical.

Xplosive, the reason why they are interested in what goes on in Iran; because of the inability of the US and Europe to confront Iran militarily. They have tried to confront Iran through the UN, but it failed. Now, they are trying it through the media. The want to paint Iran as an evil entity (well, Dubya already did that). The question is; will that succeed? I doubt it.

PPL dont even question what they read in a website anymore. Questions that are important sometimes. Like who is the author?? does he have any particular motivations to post it?? why now if it has been happening forever?? all these Qs are important...but most of us fail to even ask wether the information given in an article is accurate or not!!

Wa are ready to jump to conclusions and scream death to Iran death to Arabs and so on...but reflect a little ppl, reflect at least sometimes!!!

Many countries don't have the battered woman clause in their laws. This kind of things happens everywhere. I agree with Cawar (which news organisation reported the case?) If she is found guilty and sentenced to death because she killed someone( death sentences are excuted for killing someone in many countries), I guess the case for "rape" has been considered.

How many cases of miscarriages of justice have you seen in the west?

You sicko mothafocking conts. May Allah cut-off your sphincters and surgically remove your diicks so that you walk really funny for the rest of your worthless lives you sons of mangy goats.

How dare even attempt to justify, qualify or otherwise excuse the hanging of 17 year old girl? I don't care if she killed 100 fiilthy hairy persians and fried their nuts. She is still a 17 year old child.

At worst she should be sent a youth offending centre.

Michale

The boyfriends ran because in iran they will be lashed till they bleed for `immorality'. They were just kids themselves 17 and 14. the rapists were Morality police guards and they seperated the young couples which probably made it impossible to pick them up with the bikes.

What is the penalty for murder in many states in the USA??? Rape is a mitigating circumstance but not always. Why is it that you don't trust the justice system of Iran?

If she has been sentenced then I assume that she was offered due cause. She could have claimed rape in the hope that she would spared the death penalty.

Did you read about "three strikes and you are in?" policy?
