Let us turn the tables here for a while and raise a serious tabooed discussion about a natural male phenomenon called impotency.
For the Gents,
What is the Somali cultural view about impotency? Most men that I know (including myself) find it hard to digest such a scenario like this happening to their own lives, because simply we despise being impotent. You know it is not like the end of the world, and this is a natural disorder that could happen to any man at anytime, how would you deal with it if you found out to be impotent? Psychologically speaking, do you think it will affect how you feel about your masculinity, or will you inform close friends and family members and seek their advice and support? Generally speaking, I think a man who is impotent may be able to find a woman who is not interested in sex, therefore will you settle with such a women and adopt kids and get along with your life? Or, you may take a shot at Viagra and its side affects, and pretend that your “manliness†is in perfect order?
For the Ladies
Even though I heard that impotency is a legitimate Islamic legal reason for a woman to dissolve her marriage, and Islamic judges usually apply this within a time-span, will you divorce if your husband becomes impotent? Or, will you attempt other ways with him to enjoy intimate times despite that matter?
Alright, let me shut up before I get into a lot of trouble here.
