Guursiga Soomaaliyeed

Post by dhuusa_deer »

I came across this interesting fact about traditional somali marriages. I admit I'm by all intents and purposes illiterate in this field. However, reading on the many rich and distinct marriage customs only one stood out. Can anyone confirm the validity of this account? I find it hard to believe on top of being down right hilarious. Here is a description of it:

Udub Qabsi: Waa hab gabadhu inta ay nin dush ka jeclaato gasho ninka gurigooda, waxayna ay qabsataa udub-dhexaadka ama sariirtiisa, waxaan caado inta badan ah in halkaas gabadha lagu meheriyo ama xaal weyn la siiyo. Nooca guurkani illaa hada wuu jiraa. Laughing Laughing

Udub is the only strong thing that she can hold into Sad She should have been very desperate! I think it is because in that ERA girls were required to marry, if she doesn't marry at the age of 18 she is supposed to be GUUMEYS Sad Poor thing...

Udub is the long poles which are the foundations of the somali huts, its basically a supporting column.

It just means when the girl is too desperate to hook a guy , she will do that in the open and black mail the poor nomad into marrying here.

Its another forum of Heerin. Desperate woman will go to desperate measures to scure a mate.

Remember in the somali bush there was no remedy for ugliness so they had to come up with a means in which woman can secure a mate even if she had to literally rape him.. Laughing

I have never heard of this and it' s probably not a general somali custom. It might be restricted to certain regions of the country. It' s very amusing in a way Laughing

thats odd

but i heard from this old old old guy that there use to be a tradition in which once a couble gets married, they get into a buul or there home, with the entire villagers waiting out side. in this case, the woman is tide down to a chair or something tightly, or the girl is overall wrap up in ropes. well anywayz, the guy is required to unwrap the girl, using all his might, and if the he succeeds he can start his major,if not, and the girl wins this semi-battle, the girl is taken out of the house, with the guy inside, and the house torn down with him inside it.

if he cant handle her on the first day, how can he the next, is there moto i quess.

Lady & sandheer,

It is one of the strange Somali cultures.... When I heard I was shocked...
I am sure there are more or less similar ways in which the girls in the city do it Laughing But those poor women where required to get married otherwise she is gumeys if did not marry at age 18 Sad Walaahay I feel sorry for those poor women...

Also another strange, very strange and unislamic culture that I have heard is in some places if a guy visits a family( reer miyi) he will poke his spear in front of the hut as a sign that there is a guest in the house, and the husband will not enter the hut( Aqal) as long as the guest is there. In the mean time the wife will serve him (the guest) in every way.... Sad

We had so many unthinkable cultures.....

Kumbuli,

You are confusing Somalis with Masai, that custom is Masai custom, not Somali.
