No Jews No Christians & No Dogs
Much is said about Islam being a tolerant religion especially toward the people of the book (Jews and Christians). It is also often said that the prophet Mohammed was exceptional in his mannerism and conduct toward believers and non-believers alike.
It is sometimes even claimed that he was kind, compassionate and benevolent in his dealings with non-believers. A closer look at his teachings however reveals an altogether very different story of this man. One needs only to scratch the surface to realise that Islamic teachings are not only intolerant of non-believers, but also hostile.
Consider the following hadith:
“ Allah's Messenger said: Do not greet the Jews and the Christians before they greet you, and when you meet any one of them on the roads force him to go to the narrowest part of it. “
(Sahih Bukhari Book 25, Number 5389 Narrated Abu Hurayrah)
As if painting Jews and Christians as inferior human beings whom it isn’t worth greeting wasn’t degrading enough, “force†the non-believers “to the narrowest†part of the pavement orders the compassionate prophet.
What (it may be asked) is the justification for the bullying of non-Muslims that only seek to use the roads and pavements?

If you are so open-minded, ask Allah (or the supreme "Higher Being") to guide you to the Ultimate Truth and read the Qur'an cover to cover with an open mind.
Unless you do that, then you are just trying to create confusion and you will be ignored.
countless generations have said God's Word was fairy tale until the wrath of Allah was justified on them.
Hell & Heaven are eternal.
If you don't believe in them, you BETER be right.

Hinda, I'm agnostic.
Thank you for the advice Gedo_Boy, but how do you expect one to believe without fully satisfying one's conscience that what one is being asked to believe is indeed the truth? Also note that I didn't say anything about the "word" of god being a fairy tale. I only seek a response to a legitimate question. So please answer the question if you can.

Thnks
Atheism is a sad excuse for weak minded people who believe the only answer to religion is no religion they wont believe something until they see it, like most people, perhaps if they had religion they would see the differance in their lives. Though they are to **** stupid to realize that.

What if I told you that:
20 + 31 = 50 ???
+1

Did you get my point above? I'll explain below.
(sura fussilat aya 53)
"We will show them Our Signs in the universe, and in their ownselves, until it becomes manifest to them that this (the Qur'ân) is the truth. Is it not sufficient in regard to your Lord that He is a Witness over all things?"
(sura isra aya 85)
".........And of knowledge, you (mankind) have been given only a little.""
have you been to university?
you know when the prof. is (at least in engineering) deriving some formula and something doesn't readily make sense to you?
How do things appear to you immediately?
You think there must be something wrong and your logic can't grasp it, right?
But then time passes and you accumulate some other knowledge that puts things into perspective. For example, with Newton's Equations for motion. People swore by them for hundreds of years and thought it was the absolute truth. But then we had problems reconciling it with other things we learned and we thought there must be a contradiction because at relativistic speeds the equations don't hold up.
Lo & Behold, Einstein came along and conjectured some theory called the theory of special relativity (whose principles happen to be alluded to in the Quran
)
What this did was enable us to reconcile almost seemingly contradictory pieces of information, it's just that at the time we didn't have the ability to see the comprehensive "Big Picture"
That's the same with this Quran and this deen. By hoping to readily have everything understandable to us, we are essentially saying that our Knowledge/Ability/Wisdom is on the same level as God (or Allah). You don't even take this approach with your teachers, how could you take this approach with the Creator of everything in this universe?
that is where my arithmetic post came from, I was just saying if you don't see the " +1 " all the way down below you think it's a contradiction.
but when you understand that the Quran is the truth, you will not do it with the intellectual cognizance, it will be with a spiritual awareness that will enable you to realize that God created you.
Therefore, take the sincere approach, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Do it sincerely and you will see with a clarity you never thought possible.

Your argument seems to be that we mustn't try to develop our understanding of Islam, and that it's better for one to simply trust that Allah has perfected Islam and ask no tough questions.
To simply say that we must trust Allah means well is to take the easy way out without endeavouring to try to engage the issue.
My question is not an illegitimate question. It is perfectly legitimate and fair. If Islam is a peaceful, egalitarian and tolerant religion as Muslims often say that it is, then why does the prophet of Islam whose manners were supposedly exceptional and of the highest merits tell Muslims that they mustn't at all be the ones to greet non-believers first, and they must further force them to the narrowest part of the pavement when out and and about on the street?
Is this the nature of a peaceful and tolerant philosophy?

My point to you is to address the issue fundamentally and pick up the Qur'an and begin an academic & intellectual study of the Qur'an in order to understand your question.
As an example, if a parent absolutely refuses his child be allowed to play soccer on a busy street with fast moving traffic, can it be said the parent is making his/her child's life miserable?
Perhaps, if all you saw was the parent spanking the kid and jerking him/her inside the house.
The problem is you don't understand the "Big Picture" and you must begin to try to do that.
God will know if you're sincere or not.

“ Allah's Messenger said: Do not greet the Jews and the Christians before they greet you, and when you meet any one of them on the roads force him to go to the narrowest part of it. “
Judging from the hadith above, it seems as if Mohammed was far from the compassionate and caring man Muslims often make him out to be. It appears as if he despised and even loathed non-Muslims to have incited such hatred against them.
If that's true, then why I sincerely ask do practicing Muslims often proclaim that Islam is tolerant, peaceful and just when the above hadith clearly illustrates that it's not peaceful, just or tolerant?
Isn't it really the case that Islam is indeed incredibly bigoted and deeply prejudiced against other faiths?

The Prophet (pbuh) said that this religion will spread to wherever night and day reach.
And guess what? Islam remains the #1 religion that people from ALL faiths convert to. Those, I mean, that are COURAGEOUS enough to open the Quran and read through it.
How's that for tolerant?

Don't take something out of context and try to manipulate things to reach your own conclusions.
Like I told you before, why don't you take up the challenge of reading the Qur'an?
Is it because you are scared to?
If you want to learn something, GO TO THE SOURCE!!!!!!!
Otherwise, you are speaking from a position of ignorance and it reflects pretty poorly on your ability of understanding.
You are in no position to commentate about something you don't even have a periphery understanding of.
You have no credibility if you don't want Allah to answer that question
