LionHeart
You know I'm allergic to the poms, and besides that let us attempt to be armchair experts and disect that story and see if it has any relevance for us. First, Somalis have been in Australia longer than the Sudanese Dinkas, and although the later group started arriving here lately, you will find them (like the Somalis in the U.S) living in many country towns where economic growth is stronger and most of the locals are in full employment. The majority of Somalis in Australia live in Melbourne, and congrete three or four areas of public housing with large families where unemployment is higher, and are more unemployed misfits of all nationalities. While the Sudanese are Christians and can easily access churches in every little town, it is hard for Somalis to access established places of worship. The reasons of Muslim poverty in Britain is captured by this qoute;
"The report said members of the Muslim, Sikh and Hindu communities were likely to remain concentrated in the same areas because families want to stay close together and many prefer to live near their places of worship."
Where do these places of worships came from? Didn't Muslims from a prior era set it up, and therefore why don't they (and us Aussie Somalis) move to where the jobs are, and establish places of worship like our Muslim predecessors did without the welfare programs that we enjoy today? What is the use in living and raising children in a dump? Even the Public Schools (primary School education) in those sort of areas are inferior to other Public Primary Schools. By the time most of those kids reach High school, they are already disadvantaged compared to their peers, other schoolmates. Blame the welfare state, it corrupted and convincingly managed us not to see the implications it has for us in the future.
Unlike the Poms, we are considered to be a new community and there is time to rectify the situation.

Follow me my people to the promised land, red-neck terriroy, country Australia.
