Boooring book reviews

Post by gurey25 »

Ok folks

What is the most boring book youve read, or unusual?
Ok ill go first, since im a glutton for punishment i picked up this book

Chun kuo by David Wingrove

Basically it starts of as a dystopia in the future where the world is ruled by China, most of the worlds ethnic groups have been exterminated.
For reasons that fail me i read the entire book, and even liked it.

now i discover that its book 1 of 8 !!!!!
8 goddamnned books in this depressing alternate world,
but i still foundit well written and readable.

Contains well researched background on chinese culture,
intrigue espionage, assasinations, millitary engagments,
philosophical discussion, Technology, and lots and lots of Sex.
and even bleedin aliens for gods sake
Laughing

so it wasnt that bad after all.

how about you

In terms of non-required readings, last summer I read 'Les Miserables' by Victor Hugo..........I can say that I never thought I could find a novel so riveting, lots of socio-economic undertones..............It was the best fiction book I've ever read.

truly remarkable masterpiece.........if you haven't read it, I suggest you do, it's a classic (and for good reason).

Gosh, I gotta reach way back to find that.... Smile I would have to say it was the book called, 'The Grapes of Wrath'.... I don't even remember who wrote it....It could have been a really good book, but I just couldn't get my mind to wrap around and lost interest in the first chapter or so.

are we supposed to discuss books we like or dislike? From the posts of gurey an gedo boy, i think we are supposed to give reviews of books we like though the title is about boring books..

the most boring book i have (actually i haven;t finished cus it was so boring) read is called The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri, pulitzer Prize winner, not for this book but for her first book 'The Interpreter of Maladies"....God! No matter what i did, this book wouldn't end. I still haven't finished it. It has no direction. It's simply about an first generation american indian boy with a weird name growing up in America with his Indian parents.....

I am actually reading a Tremendously BORING novel right now.I am at page 100 & nothing dramatic has happened.I can't divulge the name of the novel in the name of not 'revealing' myself. Rolling Eyes

But seriously--this novel is just utter boring & the amount of reviews it had garnered--its insane. Most of the narration takes place 'inwardly'--there is not much of outwardly liveliness or dramatic plot. Its stagnant dead with yes, very sweet eclectic phrases here & there ; The author certainly can write spectacular English but lacksa talent of novel writing skills.(Well he is British, Good writing should come as a natural birth, so not much of a credit to him personally) Nope- this book is going straight back to the library today!

Leo tolstoy's War and peace suked big time
and i cant believe i read anna kernina

WTF?

but thanks to the suggestion of some one on SNET OTALI to be exact the
Habr gidir nationalist, i discovered Dosteyvsky.

True Genius i say, no one understood the human condition better than
him.

for non-fiction i recommend Paulo Feriere and Ivan Illich
brilliant.

for Science fiction i recomed Peter F hamilton.

I haven't been reading for leisure lately, too damn busy. I started reading 3 books in the last two months and haven't finished one.

"The Great Infuenza" by Barry Something-or-other. Really quite interesting, if I can just get back into it.

"Neuromancer" by William Gibson. A friend really hyped this book, but honestly I'm having a hard time following the damn plot or caring much.

"The English Patient" by Wiliam Ondaatje. I really liked the movie (admittedly it's partly because I have a teensy crush on Ralph Fiennes), and the book seems promising, but again, I can't seem to find the time.

Neuromancer ahhh that is classic Cyberpunk, i cant believe you even picked up the book, i thought only male teenage geeks were into that.
i was surprised when the Matrix made cyberpunk Mainstream.

Didnt read the book but i loved the English patient,
i thought the charecters were so real and endearing.
Bif juliet binoche fan.
