The Court sMilitia vowed yesterday they would push north and take some villages and areas now claimed by Puntland. Does this mean another full-out clan war for SOmalia. It will surely end up as a huge clan war If the Courts milita go anywhere near Jowhar. This is a pretty scary scenario and more than a likely one. SO the Xamar conflict was mostly hawiye clan agianst each other. Thus, it was easy for them to operate under a banner of "muslim" team. However, outside of the Muqdisho region ever man guards his clan by his life.


Now the million dollar question is will the Islamic Courts' attempt to take nothern regions undermine the "islamic Cause" of the Courts and turn it into a clan agianst clan war.

^^the only that gets uglier overnight is your face...Somalia's situation is improving as the warlords and thugs are crushed..A/laahi yusuf wants to sit down and negotiate with the Courts. Thsi shows how strong they have gotten.

Do you honestly think it won't become a clan fight outside of Muqdisho?..clearly you out of touch with SOmalia. I know this cause i went in 2000. Once you enter villlages or towns north of Muqdisho, these peopel guard thier clan territory like dogs. If the courts go as far as Jowhar, there certainly will be a huge Clan war remincent of the 1990s.

This will not stop in Mogadishu area. Their time is up. All the weak,corrupt and barbaric fiefdoms and their maniac warlords are simple running out time,resources and support. They know it.

SomaliLight...I don't think clan loyalty will just die down overnight. But the people of Somalia are tired and since the Courts are comprised of mixture of clans, every1 who wants peace will offer them their support.

Question to my agnostic goddess: Would you be in favour of the marines sitting on the coast of Djibouti going in to cleanse the city of Islamists, and once having established security, handing back power to the elected authority?

What eminent reasons is there for the Wadaads to march any further North of Jowhar. According to them, and we really have no good reason not to take them at their word, they're going to Jowhar to dislodge last remaining vestige of Counter terrorism allience. Namely, M. Dheere and cohorts who are held up in Jowhar. I heard the deadline for them -- midnigt last night jowhar time -- to surrender came and went unmet.

Clanism as ideology has failed, the only reason ppl still hold on to it is for lack of alternatives. Convincing, demonstrable alternatives.

Well we have one now and that is the Islamic courts.

If people were like that, i mean gave way to some peaceful or better system than maybe we can talk about the courts getting support outside of muqdisho. But This is not a question of will the people fight for Islam, but will they misunderstand the objective of the courts and assume"" oh Hawiye is trying to take power from us in our own regions"..that is what i fear, and in that case this will be a clan war no doubt.

America has done no good for the world, they are just another dog looking for their bone. Why would I want Americans in SOmalia? infact foreign forces have done nothing divide Somalia further. IT is up to the people to decide if the want to accept extremists and warlords, we cannot have something like Iraq where " democratization" of the people becomes a massacre of civilians and nothing but anarchy for 3 years straight. If the courts win the people without too much bloodshed and violance, then why challenge the will of the people in their own country? if they wanna live by the Shariah, let them!

Point well made. I don't imagine that I (or any beautiful kids that I may have with you) shall be visting Somalia any time soon, but it would certainly be a sight worth seeing those marines (even if they don't set foot within Somalia and just use B52s instead) going in to blast and obliterate those Saudi worshipping extremists off the face off the earth much like they did with their Afghani cousins.

You being non Somali, i guess you have no idea what the extent of clan loyalty is in Somalia. There have been in the past, Waadaad wolves disguised as sheep. Every Wadaad that pops out of Somalia pays loyalty to his clan, that is a well known fact.

The majerteen wadaads brought down Barre government in the name of religion but everyone knew they were exercising in the name of MJ. The courts really nothing but clan wolves diguised as Muslim sheep. Give me a break with this "islamic cause". When it is hawiye agianst hawiye, it easy to hide clan objective, but once you hit the outskirtsof muqdisho they will fight in the name of land, clan and their forefathers, religion is hardly the cause of the day.
