AN english Poem for S...

Post by SomaliLight »

Eyes only see what light reveals,
but our hearts hide our heaviest fears.
We are mourning something past and avoided
You and I, and memories long discarded

In a world that shall not comprise,
Is it you that has been my greatest loss.
I love thee, although love must end in such spite.
So subdued and without an honorable fight

But in crowded streets among human heart beats.
I have often turned just to catch a glimpse of thee,
And when our hearts and eyes meet
We shall each turn into the crowd and disappear.

That was a beautiful piece of poetry SLight. I particularly enjoyed the last stanza .

I'd post some of my own, were they not of so dark and melancholic a nature.

Give us more.

Somalilight/Bas/AA

I normally have no time for english poetry but when I was about 16 I read a poem on the Encyclopeadia Britannica of 1968.

The poet was American and it went something like this:

Some day some old familiar rain

Will come along and know my name

I cant remember the rest but those two lines had such an impact I actually embossed them on every bed, wall and gym in my secondary school. Do you know the poet? I googled few times and couldnt find it.

Galol.

It is a song titled:

The World I Used To Know

Some day some old familiar rain will come along and know my name.
And then my shelter will be gone and I'll have to move along.
But 'till I do I'll stay awhile and track the hidden country of your smile.
Some day the man I use to be will come along and call on me.
And then because I'm just a man, you'll find my feet are made of sand.
But 'till that time I'll tell you lies and charter hidden boundaries of your eyes.

Some day the world I use to know will come along and bid me go.
Then I'll be leaving you behind for love is just a state of mind.
But 'till that day I'll be your man and love away your troubles if I can.
And 'till that day I'll be your man and love away your troubles if I can.

By Rod McKuen. Recorded by The Kingston Trio, 1964 (also recorded by Glenn Yarborough)

CAWAR,

Galol is reminiscing but not actually in love. Old sweet childhood memories were braught to life by what Somalilight wrote I suppose. Otherwise, I grew out of the periods when I had my heart up on my sleeve and basically fell in love with any girl who smiled at me. Weynaadaa wanaagsan ma maqlinoo saaxib? Love is a waste of time and honestly defined it is just wanting to be intimate with your favourite opposite sex. All women can play that role for me with some small preferences. I am not wasting my time on love.

Brilliant! Hey thanks soo much mate. So it is a song? It was most a poem first.

Galol, Likely it was a poem but one of the guys above decided to make it into a song. Either way, what matters is that you have it in complete now and can repost it on your bed once more if you like it.

Good for you sxb.

But:

" Love is a waste of time and honestly defined it is just wanting to be intimate with your favourite opposite sex"

Thats how I have been thinking ever since i realized(maybe at the age of 6 or 7..lol)That women have something good to offer, but the wiser I get the more I think that there is too much love in this world that needs to be disseminated. Very Happy

Cawar, you must know that every skilled man like you who excells in the art will meet his match one day and shall pay a heavy price??

You should be doubly careful Laughing

PS: I know your feelings are evanescent. I didn't believe you when you hinted you were in love up there above.
