Interviewer: Tell me about, Alqadia also has historic ties to warlords and Islamic fundamentalists in Somalia, after a decade of civil war in the east African country a fragile transitional government is trying to restore order. Ali Galaid is the former Prime-Minister of Somalia. He says to be successful any search for terrorist activities there must have the consent and co-operation of the Somali people.

Galaydh: No body in the outside world can impose solution in Somalia. What is needed and to insure that Somalia is not launching pad for terrorism is to work closely with Somalis.

Interviewer: Tell me about the USA intelligence reports saying that Somalia is important to terrorists?

Galaydh: There hasn't been central government in Somalia for 12 years therefore the fear is that terrorists can exploit that, the second aspect is that there has been indications that a local Islamic organisation called alitihad had links with a foreign organisations with similar orientations and one that has been pointed out is that of alqaida. The Transitional National Government is supposed to be cahoots with some of these Islamic fundamentalists. Therefore the fear is the absence of central, you now, authority will be point of , you now, weakness, entry point for terrorists.

Interviewer: What is the alqaida presence in Somalia right now?

Galaydh:I don't think there is any clear cut presence of alqaida, Osama Bin laden no less claims to have been active and to have lent support to Mohamed Farah Aidid in 1992/93, when the American service men were killed. the claim made by Osama Bin laden and the what my Somali friends tell me pointing the same direction that there has been some contact. but at the moment there are no organised groups that have military camps that have militias which are active, I ... even Bin Laden himself if he comes I don't think it is enormously difficulty to come and stay in a small town or village in Somalia, but Somalia is again a fairly homogenous country which is about every body knows every body, so it won't be easy to hide for very long, and specially if one achats attention.

Interviewer: But if us learns that Osama Bin Laden is there or that some other alqaida cells operating in Somalia what should it do? should it come in and strike right away or should it take it to the UN?

Galaydh: I think if Osama Bin Laden or a cell is operating out of Somalia, the us should take the appropriate measures.

Interviewer: A lot of Americans are learning something about Somalia now through this movie "black hawk down" having to do with Somalia in 1993, how different is Somalia today?

Galaydh: The great majority of Somalis at that time and right now are very supportive of the international community coming to Somalia and helping Somalis help themselves in re-establishing the state, and more Somalis even in October 1993 were supportive of the presence of the UN mission and .. the united.. even though the American forces has been there. The horrible thing was aahh one faction or one faction leader Mohamed Farah Aidid was against the American presence there and that faction in Mogadishu, forget about the rest of the country, is a minority aaah and that is where I think there is a misread of the Somali situation in the past. this film or this movie "Black Hawk Down" is probably going to aahh contribute to the aah this notion of the Somali syndrome an UNY-governable place and hostile sort of orientation of Somalis towards Americans and the western world but simply is not the case.
