Iran bans 'Da Vinci Code' !!!!!!!
Source: Yahoo! News
July 26, 2006 Author: AFP
TEHRAN (AFP) -
Iran has banned the best-selling novel "The Da Vinci Code" after receiving a protest letter from Christians, Iranian newspapers have reported.
"After receiving the letter of protest from religious Christians, the culture ministry decided to cancel the authority given for publication of this book," Mohammad Reza Vasfi, a ministry official, told the daily Etemad Wednesday.
According to the newspaper, some 30,000 copies of the book have already been distributed in the country and the book was in its eighth edition before the decision to ban it.
The controversial book by author Dan Brown, which has sold more than 40 million copies worldwide, supports the thesis according to which Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene were married and had a child whose descendants are alive today -- a claim which the book says the Church has tried to smother for two millennia.
The Catholic Church has harshly denounced the book which has been boycotted by certain religious groups.
Iranians, however, can still buy videos or DVDs of the film version on the black market, the usual way in which Western films circulate in the country.

I am not going to comment on the CIA.
As for the UIC, IF the UIC actually was able to gain control of Somalia, and IF the UIC were to refrain from setting out to undermine US foreign policy and IF the UIC did not harbor known Al Qaeda members, THEN I think there is a good chance it would be recognized and receive aide.

How can the Da-vinci Code be offensive to the muslims? It is offensive more to the christians than it is to the muslims since it questions the devinity of jesus and alleges he was married to mary and had kids. I say the book has done a good job sending these christians back to drawing board so they can ask pertinent questions.

^ they have removed your patience and made you into this edgy son of a gun. I am not surprised if you get scared of your shadow sometimes thinking there is someone stalking you in the alley. Being an american soldier can do some damage to otherwise normally functioning human being.
No wonder you don't like riddle talk , you have not the time nor the patience

Mad Mac, That must be the desk job you have. You can't be in a combat zone or you wouldn't be conversing with people online like this saying you are leading the good life.
Your fellow soldiers have issues the least of which is reliving their nightmares in Iraq when they come back to the states. It takes months of counsel for them to transition into a normal civilian life. Iraq must be hell on earth for everyone including poor Iraqis who are dying a hundred a day.
Bush is criminal. You have another front opening soon for you guys in Lebanon. You have to go defend Israel.

Gamadid
I hae deployed eight times. EIGHT.
I fought in Iraq and I fought in Somalia, and I'm not some sort of anti-social basket case. I teach salsa, I go out a lot, I'm not a heavy drinker. Don't buy into the media crap which loves to focus on the negative.
if I have to deploy again, I'l do it. I am well paid. And if you think soldiers sit around thinking about why they are fighting, wrong again. Professional soldiers on worry about the why in so far as they need to know to analyze how to accomplish the mission. We may casually BS about politics and so forth, but professionals don't trouble themselves with it much. I worry about the when, the how, and the how much. Troops that are all focused on the "cause", amateurs waiting for an ass whoopin'.
