Sheikh M. Umal (one of my favorite Sheikhs) yesterday led friday prayers at Masaajidka Isbaheysiga in Mogadishu. This mosque is the largest mosque in Somalia & has been closed for over a decade. The congregation that prayed there was around 13,000 people. Masha Allah!
As a kid, I used to attend dugsiga at masaajidka isbaheysiga & it really made me happy to see my old mosque come back to life, Alhamdulilah!. I still remember playing in the courtyard of the mosque.
PS: Has anyone been to this mosque before the war?
Wa Billahi Towfiiq.

Why was the largest mosque in Somalia closed for 15 years? Did the people there (Mogdishu) take a break from Islam for those 15 years? Anyway reer Mogdishu finding religion can only be good news for all Somalis.

^^No the biggest masjid was this one Isbaheysiga and not Wadajir mosque.
It was located near Ceelgaab and next to the statue called Dhagxtuur...I think the statue was gone by the time the Americans reached there.
