Arab or African?

Just curious I hav notice most somalis claim to be Arab, and the relishe the fact their in Arab league.

so as Somali do you see your self as an African or an Arab?

NO-i am not an African or Afrikano. My Original country is geographically situated in the continent of Africa.I am Somali---but i am originally a descendant of Arab.

By African I am implying the underpining physical attributes and culture that characterise an African such as Black physical appearance. I knw there are dozen Arab country in north and other part of Africa..such moroco just to name one...but their arabness is apparent and in no way is in dispute, but the sense of Somali Arab identity can be questioned as a mere product of historical ties that is based on middleval arab busines trade in the cost of africa and that itself is not sufficient enough to clense Somalis of its balck african roots.

only tie we have with arabs is religion if this factor was removed (religion) you would see we are nothing alike

talking about physical features (the curly soft hair and str8 nose) look at the ppl in niger, western sahara and mali they are in western/central africa yet have very somali like features

Is is good to know that just like me you view u r self as african, but i fink the major factor in somali identity crisis is that they find hard to resign to the fact their african...for them being african is accepting cultural inferiority

i dont think that is true because from this statment you could be saying that the somali culture is not african even though there are similarities between the arab and somali culture but i think that is due to the shared religion between the 2 races.

for example when a person is killed the other person has to pay a "muug" or "diaa" (excuse mt mispelling) which is blood money while perhaps in other african cutlure is differs.

hey liban sahib in the above comment i made, I was merely try to address the geonological aspect of the argurment. I think we should remove culture from the debate as somali culture is a by pass product of Islam and Arab interaction....we should try to adresss the origin of Somali per se
