Working less, not more

Taking a break from the usual stuff (Iran, Middle East, Somalia, idiotic politicians , etc.) I'd like to re-direct attention to something more mundane: Work.

Yes, work. You know, the thing you get up for in the morning but don't really want to. (Some of us might still be students though)

Why is Europe and the West as a whole working itself to death? Where have all the productivity gains gone? Why do companies that adopt labour-saving technologies follow up by firing workers rather than reducing their working hours?

Isn't it time we cut down the work week? Say 32 hours (four days) to start. It would lower unemployment, help the environment, lower all sorts of costs, and most importantly, reclaim our sanity (I believe they do this in the Netherlands, but if I've been mis-informed, please do correct me Smile ). Everywhere I see overworked people. So overworked that wasting their precious free time on shopping binges does not help. It's time to cut down the work week.

Make Love - Not Work. Very Happy

Being a full time student and a full time worker, does pay off at the end of the day, The only thing you'll probably miss out during you're time away would be TV. But you can balance that out.

usagichan,

Are you one of those people who sleep 4-5 hours per day. If so, all I can say is you are insane Very Happy .. Anything less than 7-8 hours and I'll need a nap around noon.

Cheroke

Im in the same boat as you. Par-time woker and full-time student. it just shows you are ambitious up . There is always Costa Del Sol for the unmotivated, ambitionless, underachieving party-lovers bottom feeders

But then again there's people like usagichan, who work 80+ hours a -week. Every where I see tired over-worked people Laughing
