A little insight into Cumar Ibn Abdulaziz

In the time of Khaleefah Cumar Ibn Abdulaziz (RA), he appointed a man named Cumar Ibn Muhaajir whose main task, job and responsibility was to sit next to the Khaleefah and nudge the hem of his garment every time he sees him committing an error, mishap, misjudgement or a mistake and remind him that he will die one day and to be aware of Allah (SW), he was a self-appointed audit.
Then one day, under the watchful eyes of the audit Cumar Ibn Muhaajir, Alkhaleefah was approached by his two daughters, they asked him in unison for new clothes to celebrate the Eid, knowing his financial situation, he lowered his gaze but did not respond. His deputy, who was in charge of the Beitul Maal (Muslim Treasury), suggested that he borrows what he needs and pay at the end of the month. Cumar Ibn Abdulaziz, looked up, rage feeling his eyes he addressed the man “Thakilatka Ummuka, did you take a peek on the Lowxul Maxfuudh and saw for sure I will live for a month?” Then he turns to his daughters and tells them “ Leysal Ciidu liman labisal jadiid, Innamal Ciidu liman khaafa yowmul waceed” roughly translated “Eid is not for the one who dresses in new clothes, but is for the one who is aware of the hereafter”
P.S. Did you know that Cumar Ibn Abdulaziz is the grandson of Cumar Ibnul Khattab. He is the son of Leila Bint Caasim Ibn Cumar Ibnul Khattab
