KHADRA DAHIR'S FIRST SOLO
Most of you will probably choose Magool or Hibo Nuura or Sahra Ahmed or Maryan Mursal as the first Diva, queen, doyenne of somali female vocalists. Of course they and quite few others are artists of supreme qualities. But my favourite female Artist is without a doubt Khadra Dahir.
I have been reminded of this genius of woman by a look and a sound of a girl I accidentally saw on telly and I recalled that same longing, vulnerable yet powerful, deep, serene feminine majesty aura on a woman. The girl on telly I think is called something Corrine Ray and she is one of those romantic ballad singers. By design or accident she has a 70s look about her too which brings back memories of Khadra's early Hargeisa days. This Black american chick also has that incomparable `come hither' look that some girls have without appearing to have it.
Anyway by sheer coincidence(alternatively it was fal, mingis, sixir, Allah's will or whatever else your tiny brains tell you) I also heard a recorded version of Khadra's first ever solo number recorded in 1971. At the time she was a lanky teenager playing basketball for the Northwest region(hargeisa) girls team that won the first Scholasti competition in somalia in 1971.
It was a slightly dark number called Doqon
It went something like this:
Doqon iyo nin liitaa ..weligiiba lalansada halka uu ku lumayee
Ada lebiga fulaayee kugu maan lamaaneyn kugu lamaaneyn
(Only the most of foolish of men and a weakling...hankers after the road that will lead him to his demise.....it is you who climbed on the highest of trees..never to be twinned with you.."
Weird song isnt it? Do you remember the rest? have you heard of this song before?
PS: From your PMs some of you think i mean something else behind everything: On this occassion I dont: I am just on nostalgia trip. So contribute if you can

Not thar one. That was much later. I think the one I am talking about is realm collector's piece because i dont think Radio Mogadishu ever recorded it.

Khadara horse-face's my favorite too, that woman's got a fantastic voice. I tought her first song was,, Afka lagama sheegto, adoo jaceyl arag, looma uur xumadee.
this song was directed to Ahmed Cali cigaal after he left her.
adoo gola ka maagloo
haweenkaba ka gaabsaday
sawtaan ku gado baray
garta iyo tusaalaha
adigoon gorfayn karin
sawtaan geesi kaa dhigay.
Does any1 know where her labeeb son INa Ahmed Cigaal lives now? My cousin baa baad ka qaadi jirey after school every week, fuley fuley dhalay.

Daanyeer reminded me:
Webigey sitee i walwaalayaa xagguu igu wadaa
imisuu wareey webi soo rogmaday igu daray badweyn waxna aan noqon?
("The River carrying me away..to where?
Dont it know..thunderous rivers carried me to oceans before..and i came out unscathed..")
dark songs arent they? Can you think of joyful Khadra song? Just what suicidal mothafocka is her lyricist?

"Afka lagam sheegtoo" was not her first song but arguably it was her worst.
Yes I heard the Ali Egal song too. In fact it was much more political than that some say it was about the political relationship between Cumar Carte Ghalib and Siyad Barre.
Hey with your Midgaan connection what do you think of the political names of Maryan Mursal's two boys?
