The Queen......

Post by Basra- »

The Movie was not that great. I had high expectation that it would be brilliant, to my great disappointment-- i found it -excessively mediocre.Helen Mirren as Queen Elizabeth ll was good-- no doubt-- but the movie lacked a vigor. Surprised

It never really penetrated or portrayed the Queen--in a new light that is unknown to the public. The movie so far-- painted her as -- stoic, stiff, emotionless old fashion that she is & that we know she was.Her son Charless was painted fairly accurate as well- a bit comical if you must know. The complete opposite of his mother. The love depraved first son of the Monarch. The idiot who perpetually searches for the approval of a brilliant yet dull Queen. There is a scene where he tries to make a good impression with the Prime Minister, by calling him & making it clear he was not representing the Queen. LOL The little ninny mini boy in a 50 years body is astonishing. The Queens husband is portrayed as another ninny, just like his son; who always lives for the pleasure of his wife. I think this is the most astonishing revealation of all. He comes out as this little puppy who jumps when the Queen says jump. I read before that he was a man of his own mind that he chose Diana for Charles against his wifes consent. Later he ends up hating Diana more than the Queen herself. Blair came out really amazing in the end. In fact i wish they could make a movie about him & his very interesting wife. It will be fascinating --to watch the movie of their life. Otherwise--The Queen was tolerable in this respect; the scenery was magnificent-- the wardrobe atrocious, the language archaic & definitely exaggerated. Laughing

Overall --the movie was a solid --weak C +. I hope Marie Antoinette movie does NOT disappoint ment like this one did---which is coming this friday. Time will tell. Huuissshh!

So Hows everybody doing? Very Happy Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

Dont believe the French. They hated her. They made that up--maybe Louis --Marie's husband said that-- & they pinned it on her. He grew up spoilt & isolated from his people. Marie rules! Rolling Eyes Laughing Laughing

"Soul Meets Body"

I want to live where soul meets body
And let the sun wrap its arms around me
And bathe my skin in water cool and cleansing
And feel, feel what its like to be new

Cause in my head thereÂ’s a greyhound station
Where I send my thoughts to far off destinations
So they may have a chance of finding a place
where theyÂ’re far more suited than here

I cannot guess what we'll discover
We turn the dirt with our palms cupped like shovels
But I know our filthy hands can wash one anotherÂ’s
And not one speck will remain

I do believe itÂ’s true
That there are roads left in both of our shoes
If the silence takes you
Then I hope it takes me too
So brown eyes I hold you near
Cause youÂ’re the only song I want to hear
A melody softly soaring through my atmosphere

Where soul meets body
Where soul meets body
Where soul meets body

I do believe itÂ’s true
That there are roads left in both of our shoes
If the silence takes you
Then I hope it takes me too
So brown eyes I hold you near
Cause youÂ’re the only song I want to hear
A melody softly soaring through my atmosphere
A melody softly soaring through my atmosphere
A melody softly soaring through my atmosphere
A melody softly soaring through my atmosphere

Basra and her obsessively shallow chronicling of European aristocracy does not deserve a Death Cab for Cutie song!

Cherokee--i told you before & i am telling you now-- i liked you better when you were 'Hibo". There was a sense of a disturbed little lost college girl in you that i admired. In fact, i recall we were lost together, remember the infant good ol' days? Laughing Laughing Laughing

Ashlee Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

Will you please stay AWAY from my post?? You & your brown eyes lover--whatever dirty things u did & feel guilty about-- send your adulterous, rebellious self to a destination far away from my post. I recommend a greyhound bus for your means of travel. Razz Evil or Very Mad

'Basra and her obsessively shallow chronicling of European aristocracy '???

Huh??? Madame Agnostic--why are you calling me shallow??? Ok fine - i confess you are right. You saw right through me. Laughing Laughing

Prag--are you going to watch The Queen? And are you against European Mornarchy?? And also --i have noticed an attitude change from you.You used to be all cheery around me--all liking & sweet to me.I sense a faint hint of negative attitude from you.Normally this kind of attitude arises when i have exchanged nasty criticism on someone- as far as i recall we never but have pleasant exchanges with each other. Unless -- that is-- Rolling Eyes ---we exchanged unpleasantness with YOU using another name. If that is so-- i understand. Very Happy Embarassed Rolling Eyes Laughing

Gatspy

Interesting that you are curious of my expectations of the movie & further begulling is your insistence that i be 'honest'. First- i resent--severely on you presuming i am dishonest. And second--- what are you upto & what did u 'really' mean--mister? Laughing Laughing

Ok --What was I expecting? Well the usual-- fine refined English Language -dialogues, an infiltration of other royal members of the family through a ball, an extensive scenery of the Buckingham palace in london in which she broadcasted when she was giving her first ever live tv broadcast. I wanted Hollywood to tell me something---dirty & revealing about Her majesty-- something new & worth discussing with my shallow friends at starbucks Cafe`. Many many things dear--that never happened. I am sure the writer was an average american--that explains the weak script. Maybe they should hire me! Laughing Laughing Laughing

Basra, you are not shallow, you just like to pretend you are and I don't like it. I told you before that you've created this caricature of yourself that's virtually unlikeable. The question is why.

And I know you don't really believe I have another nick.

I'm not going to watch The Queen, it sounds dull. I will watch MA, I'm also a big Kirsten Dunst fan. Yes I despise European monarchy, like you, they are a faint shadow of what they were Razz

Basra, you're something Laughing Laughing Laughing Always great and ironic. I love your style on conversations and discussions...

So, what's your recomendation? Should I go to see the movie or not? Is it gonna be a waste of time? I'm personally inclined to see other kind of movies. Queen Elizabeth II is a very boring character for me (the real one, I don't know the one of the movie). And I'm also any kind of monarchy, whatever it is the British one or the Spanish. When the King Juan Carlos die, I think nobody here is gonna accept his son Felipe as the new King of Spain... He spends a lot of money in parties with the sons of the richest families of Madrid and nobody likes that here...

If you have the chance, go to see 'Alatriste' when it's in the States. I think you're gonna love it. It has been a great success here in Spain, and it's being a great success in Italy. It's starred by Viggo Mortensen. His Spanish in the movie is perfect.

Prag....I beg your Pardon???

'Basra, you are not shallow, you just like to pretend you are and I don't like it.'

First of all Madame-- Pourquoi do you assume you 'know' me very well? I mean-- i appreciate your tender loving concerns for my parson; but i dont like this liberte` that u take with assuming to know moi! How do u know i am pretending anything? I could be very shallow or not-- i could be pretending or not.And the 'i dont like it' mini statement hints --a little side of you that is hidden--speaking of 'knowing' someone. I sense that you have idolized me in an image of your own liking.Or it could be that you have fallen en amore` with a side of moi that you want desperately to claim whole & your own. God forbid, the 'authentic' side of me that you desperately want to happen. My dear, let me caution you, that-- not everybody lives in your mind. The 'idea' of Basra created in your pragmatic head--no matter how high of a pedestal you've placed her--does not correspond with the real world outside your mind.Maybe this alleged authentic self you mourn was given in charity in our randezvous by mistake, i mean of course through you using another formidable name i might add.You know-- the name with a G' spot? Rolling Eyes Laughing Laughing

BY all account-- i am versely disappointed that you would not see the movie.Your idealist sense of personality prevents you from admiring --selfish, hyper rated socialites like the institution of monarchy i am sure. I understand--dear Prag-- i am however delighted you will watch Marie antoinette! Looking forward to a lengthy dissection of the movie. Very Happy Laughing Laughing

Kamal@lol Laughing

Senor`-- i appreciate you loving my style of discussions & conversations. You are not alone if might add- a large portion of the real & onlines population frequently demand my presence & good conversaton.I dont think i am familiar with the Spanish mornarchy. However i am surprised you dont like Elizabeth l of Britain. If my memory is correct-- that Queen had a lot of dealing with the Spanish Monarchy--in fact she was almost married to a prince from Spain. The Spanish were very powerful during her era .I am surprised how a nation that was so powerful before could linger into oblivion today. The French as well have sufference same consequence. Yes, i recommend you watch the -Queen-- although-- Kamal i think it will bore you. That is not your cup of tea. I think you need something with a little bit of action in your movies choice-- maybe an epic movie about a famous Spanish rockstar & his band. The art of a Guitor or racing car flicks movie.Maybe the movie--Fast & Fury? But nevertheless --if u wish --u can give it a try! Laughing Laughing Laughing

Basra, nice. Incisive and insightful analysis, almost like the old Basra.

I'm not sure I got the bit about the G spot, I didn't know we were talking about sex.

The G spot is not a sexual inuendo. Its more like a metaphor for someone or something that i cannot be lame enough to be clear. (You know--for discretions sake--Lord knows how many average DUMB silent readers right now - reading our discussions) Very Happy

Elizabeth I is not very popular here. She was the responsible of the destruction of the Spanish Armada (called The Invencible Navy) and the fall of the Spanish Empire in the 16th century during the Anglo-Spanish war. The ancient and mutual hate and despise among Spaniards and British comes from that time... Evil or Very Mad

My favourite movies are those one based on actual facts, some war movies and historical movies. I liked 'Troja' and films like that. Also Science-Fiction. Car races movies are not very good, with the exception of the great film 'Grand Prix' (in the sixties).

Again, I insist you to watch Alatriste. It's worthy to see. A Spanish super-production in the Hollywood style...

Take a look
