TELL ME WHAT U THINK!! SOMALI WOMEN ARE OPRESSED
I FOUND THIS ON ANOTHER WEBSITE.. SOMEONE POSTED THIS TOPIC TELL ME WHAT YALL THINK DO U AGREE WITH THIS OR NOT
I've made lots of observations, and I have concluded that most Somali men are oppressive to women. They basically view women as second class citizens. Not only in Somalia, but also in the west.Alot of these views that men have about somali women is basically what they say is from the religion, yet most of them don't even know alot about the deen. For example, men are served first in everything, from food to getting other things done. Men are held in a pedestal and women are treated like they are insignificant. For example, why is it somali restaurants, they allow men to sit in the well lit areas, the cleaner areas with the t.v., yet women have to sit in a hole that's unhygenic, and bore lighting (yes, I have experienced this, and I was hungry so I ate there anyways ). Men can do what they want, no one criticizes them, and when I usually say "no one" I mean the women, yes the women are the ones who are propagating this oppression on themselves by allowing this to happen to them.Females are treated like crap basically, and they think this treatment is okay, they actually believe they are "free", and criticize western women and how they are oppressed, even though I do believe they aren't very free, I also believe they have more freedoms then somali women. The clothes of the women is more probed, it's sometimes annoying, do I have to drag 50 feet of cloth to be considered a chaste woman? Ridiculous is all I have to say. In my opinion, the majority of Somali women are oppressed, and they are allowing this to happen to themselves.

All that cultural stuff may be unfair, but I wouldnt call it oppression. Oppression is far too strong a word, and Somali women are treated with more qiimo than lets say in timo jilic countries where they burn them to death when their husbands die etc. I believe Im fortunate to come from a Somali family compared to those who 'honour kill' and dictate their female relatives.
Thats alittle harsh sister i dont think of somali woman that way at all they are very opinionated and strong in most cases. As for the restaurant you gotta realize these business owners probably have limited funds and the woman for chastity's sake insist on being seated separately as is there right.....so insallah pray for the business owners to make enough dough so they can hook up our spot too.

xasid!! why would u compare anybody to that retard ayan!!
walaalo oppression is a very strong word to use...and like my dear friend gedo said somali women are treated much better then alot of other women!!!
in the deen it says a women is equal 2 50% and a man is equal to 100% and thats why men are suppose 2 treat women with alot of respect, love and care......but its so cajiib how men have taken that statement and changed it 2 satify them...........

Its true, when they read a little on the subject they over look the core development of feminism and just look at petty things like, why can’t I eat qaad and smoke and have to be told what to by my father. You know that old road in trying to copy men rather then achieve equality. Its sad they even take the meaning of liberalism out of context.
I personally can’t stand them, if they want to humiliate themselves and their family, why name it feminism, ruining a perfectly find ideology.

What a pile of crap this is. I couldnt be arsed to read the entire article, but its clear that this must be someone who just arrived the West and relized that grass isnt greener on the other side after all. This whole "women are oppressed" thing is doing my head in. OK, there are some unfortunate women who really are oppressed, but never have I see so much exaggeration.
