Three US battle groups now in the Persian Gulf

Post by Grant »

Check out http://www.debka.com/. It's an Israeli site with a very different view of world events.

"Tuesday, Oct. 17, the Iwo Jima Expeditionary Strike Group steamed into the Persian Gulf to join the US naval, air and marine concentration piling up opposite IranÂ’s shores. It consists of the amphibious transport dock USS Nashville, the guided-missile destroyers USS Cole and USS Bulkeley, the guided-missile cruiser USS Philippine Sea, the attack submarine USS Albuquerque, and the dock landing ship USS Whidbey Island. The Iwo Jima group is now cruising 60 km from Kuwait off IranÂ’s coast. As DEBKAfile and DEBKA-Net-Weekly reported exclusively two weeks ago, three US naval task forces will be in place opposite Iran in the Persian Gulf and Arabian Sea by October 21. The other two are the USS Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group and the USS Enterprise Strike Group. "

fk-u are absolutely right. Bush said he won't leave another president to deal with Iran. He wants to deal with the Ayatollahs. Boy, will he learn a lesson he will never forget.

Got damm thats a lotta firepower. And Iran, unlike Iraq, is not landlocked. If they unleash that arsenal on Iran, dude'll wish he'd never been born.

you know what..
i think this administration is crazy enough to do it.

They can see iraq was an absolute mess, Afghanistan turning into another one.

I think they are going to start the Iran war, before the public starts to wise up.

Iraq is not landlocked, but its not as open to the sea as Iran.

the US is putting its self in a big whole which it cant get out off. Iran and the ayatollah do not want to back in any way.

Iraq has a few kms in the Persian Gulf, thats it. Iran, on the other hand has a hundreds of km long coasltline just open for attack. So that, IMO, makes Iraq landlocked.

And the key difference between Iraq and Iran, is that Iraq was done under the premise of ousting a despot, and restoring "democracy". Iran will be done under the premise of a straight up, pre emptive war strike. Two different things. America wont be in Iran to win hearts and minds. Theyll be there to destroy that joint.

problem is that airstrikes alone will not stop Irans nuclear program.

eveyrone learned the lesson of Isreals attack on Osirak.

since then everywhere around the world has began digging like moles.

Most of Irans good stuff is spread out over a large area and is underground.

Yeah, the US basically has only one military option concerning Iran. Destroy it. We can destroy its infrastructure, our Army could march into key areas and seize and then destroy the nuclear facilities (which can not be destroyed from the air). We can destroy all their power plants, etc. And we can leave the place an economic disaster zone. But that would stop the flow of oil from Iran, markets would be very jittery, oil prices would skyrocket.

Iran can not attack Israel anymore than Israel can attack Iran. Look at the map.
