Somalis and Identity "issues"

I have noticed that somalis have major identity issues. Alot of the somali girls I know act like they are arabs. It's quite annoying. Arabs view somalis as being inferior, yet I see so many of them kissing fuuto. This arab girl said, I'm glad somalis and us wear our hijabs differently, because alot of people confuse us. LOL. Why must we wear their attire to be "good muslims"? Some somali people are so unaware of racism it's funny. I personally don;t like arabs, especially the ones I come into contact with. I'm sure there are nice ones out there, but I rather be friends with a regular white person. I think they have serious superiority complex. Why are we losing our africaness to be closer to arabs who hate africans. I think all africans are brainwashed to the max (except Me).

i think that there are some elements of truth in your post. Maybe those somali girls that you have met grew up in arab countries and that is why you see the similarities. Sis, it not necessarily that those somali girls are imitating their arab counterparts but the simple fact is that environment does influence or a least have a great effect on your personality and your way of life.

Our only issue is that we are quick to adapt...

don't you think that integration and becoming a member of the main stream is a healthy sign?

yea in a since that might be a good thing. but Somalis are trading their beautiful culture, they are to quick to imitate other peoples cultures now thats not intergration.we should embrace the true beauty of our culture.

somalis are good at adapting, to thier surroundings.
I grew up around arabs, speak arabic, sometmes dress like an arab, but i do not have thier attitude, or outlook.
sometimes my closest friends who consider me arab, get rudely surprised
when al of a sudden i tell them im not arab, please do not insult me, when asked by someone new.
you should see the look in thier faces.
I am a somali, first and foremost.
a world citizen next.
meaning if i wish to be arab on sunday, Australian on a friday
i can if i want to.
only problem is that there are allot of confused foks out there,
god help them.

Most Somalis youths are copycats while they have a unique CULTURE
alot of somali boys act like they from the streets imitating BLACK street culture they LOST
And then we have the Somali men in his mid 20s who acts like a white man and he despise his own culture and people
and the girls dont let me start about them !!

None of the Somali people I associate myself with consider themselves arabs or anything other than pure Somali. I have never been called anything racist in my life. Other than some idiots being surprised when I when I tell them IÂ’m African which totally annoys me.
But I know what you mean. There are Somalis that act like they are something else, some calling themselves arabs and what have you, some even having a problem with ticking the black African box as their ethnicity. The way I see it, any racist person deserves whatever racism they get from others. If you are racist to a white person donÂ’t start complaining when you get racism from an asian. If you are racist to a black person, donÂ’t complain if you get racism from an arab. If you are racist to Asians donÂ’t complain when you get racism from blacks. At then end of the day, Somalis are racist to everyone, so they shouldnÂ’t complain about racism from others. We should however not be brainwashed into believing that we had to have been mixed to look different to other Africans, and we shouldnÂ’t be racist just because we look different. Once you find pride in what you are, it wonÂ’t matter how other people see you and how you see others. You are just one of AllahÂ’s creations, but if you are a racist person, donÂ’t start talking about others being racist towards you.

I don't run into alot of confused Somalis, laakin marmar, I can't help but notice a Somali teen acting like madow (a nigger) to the core. Cajiib walle those wangsters with no morals, waa qaxar and full of embarrassment. Some of them only been here like five minutes and they are already wearing the baggy clothes and speaking ebonics, " THAT IS JUST IGNORANT SHIT. They deserve to be shot in the balls.
