Jews believe in something called the Moshiach---he is like the Messiah nor Mahdi that they believe will come and save their nation. alot of people claimed to be the Moschiach.
back in 16 century a jews man claimed to be this Moshiach -and after having alot of influence and followers -he converted to Islam and all his followers and rabbis also converted to Islam. this destroyed the jews ppl hope.

This actually happened in the 17th century, when Shabbatai Tzvi claimed to be the moshiach. When Tzvi converted to Islam after the Ottoman empire arrested him for misleading people, many Jews converted with him. Nevertheless, this prohibition has not stopped anyone from speculating about the time when the moshiach will come.
