Seems the West is getting the picture. Aside from the usual propaganda about Al Qaeda, most of this article appears pretty accurate, with the Intelligence Community criticizing US Policy in regrards to Somalia.

John Prendergast of the International Crisis Group, who worked on Africa issues in the Clinton National Security Council and State Department, called the current administration's policy "idiotic." Tacit U.S. support for Ethiopia's military incursion has "incalculably strengthened" the Courts' appeal to Somali nationalism and "made our counterterrorism agenda nearly impossible to implement," he said.
BINGO!!!!!

They were the turkeys supporting/funding/backing the warlords, and they seem to be the only ones sending Dept. Reps over there to meet with Yusuf and Zenawi. They're also the only ones turning up the rhetoric to full volume. Face it, Yanks can't resist sticking their faces into hornets nests. It's an obsession bordering on compulsive with them. Almost a fetish i'd say.

We breath and it's in the media. Our engagement with Somalia is so minimal, it's pathetic. Nobody real gives a fock about you guys.

I disagree. I think the U.S is the Don King of world skirmishes. They LOOOVE to promote and instigate, no matter how insignifigant the combatants.

I disagree. We get the bad rap for everything. Doesn't matter what.

Obvously a country that is now generating 31% of the global GNP is going to have impacts. How can that not be? But we spend no meaningful time or resources on what is happening in Somalia.

They already tried the "containment" policy in Somalia it didn't work they are still trying through the TFG as long as we the ICU are present the by the Will of God that "containment" policy will never work in newly established Islamic Republic.

Madmac---"Our engagement with Somalia is so minimal, it's pathetic. Nobody real gives a fock about you guys. "
If that's the case , then what's the purpose of positioning US forces in all neighbouring countries {Dj, Ethiopia, Kenya}.
Again Senator Biden said it best -->"By making a bad bet on the warlords to do our bidding," incoming Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Joseph R. Biden Jr. (D-Del.) charged last week, "the administration has managed to strengthen the Courts, weaken our position and leave no good options. This is one of the least-known but most dangerous developments in the world, and the administration lacks a credible strategy to deal with it."
