(SomaliNet) The situation in Bardhere town of Gedo region in southern Somalia is reported to be very tense on Tuesday as heavily armed militia loyal to Islamic Courts Union is advancing to the town while pro government militia prepared to avert any attack from the Islamists.
Residents now fear that major confrontation may rage in the town between Islamic forces and militia loyal to Colonel Bare Hirale, minister of defense in the transitional federal government.
Witnesses in Bardhere told SomaliNet tonight that large military movements by both rivals could be seen.
Bardhere is the last stronghold of Bare Hirale where his Merehan clan is dominant.
Sources close to ICU say that Islamists want to capture the town of Bardhere in Somalia southern Gedo region, which borders with Kenya.
BareÂ’s men were put on high alert after receiving information indicating that Islamic fighters who had departed from Dinsor town of Bay region moved towards Bardhere.
Colonel Abdulahi Sheik Fara-Tag, the commander of the militia loyal to defense minister, now involves in large military movement to go against the advancing Islamists before reaching the town.
Early reports say that Islamic Courts Union have already set a committee to review the situation in Bardhere and the possibility of introducing the Islamic law in that town when it falls into the hands of ICU.
The most outspoken matter in Badhere tonight is the military advance by the Islamic Court to the town where it is now under the control Bare Hirale, the minister of defense who had earlier lost the southern port city of Kismayo in fear of the military influence by the Islamic Courts Union which seized the city without war.
If the Islamic Courts take over Bardhere, it would affirms a total control of whole southern Somalia.
