Somalia: Islamists claim they seized Gasarte quite closer to Baidoa

Mogadishu 24, Dec.06 ( Sh.M.Network) – Islamic Courts Union has alleged they have seized a settlement dubbed Gasarta, less than 12 km south of Baidoa, the government base.

The Islamic Courts commander in Bur Hakaba, Abdulahi Gedow, has told Shabelle by the phone that ICU forces have gone beyond Daynunay, some 22 km southeast of Baidoa and reached Gasarta quite close to Bai Provincial Township of Baidoa.

He also said they have blown up four Ethiopian tanks in the fight that took place in Daynuany

Update! Islamist forces are advancing to Gedo region

Islamist forces in Somalia expanded their offensive Saturday night and Sunday, attacking towns in Gedo region, witnesses said.

Islamist forces rushed in with several dozen pickup trucks bristling with heavy guns, according to residents in the Bakal area. Previously, their attacks had been limited to the south and the east of Baidoa.
