The Word 'Waaq' is in the Quran.........

Post by Gedo_Boy »

In case you didn't know, I don't know the specific aya, I will find it........
Now, I don't know if this is the same Waaq that is referred to in the Cushitic languages, but maybe it is.

But I think the aya goes: "Wa ma lakum min allahi min waaq"

Intersting! I thought it was an oromo word.

Could it be like the term hawiya (sp) in the quraan ......naar-ul hawiya. I mean a coincident term with different meaning.

Samatar, what are u talking about? I am surprised the word waaq is in the Quran. The term naar ul hawiya is in the Quran, but has nothing to do with a Somali qabil.

The pronounciation Haawiya and Hawiye are different........If they were both written in Arabic they would be accented different, hence different words.

However, with Waaq it's a little different b/c if it was written in Arabic the accent/phonetics are identical.

Also, the meaning Waaq in the Quran I think means protector, "You will not have besides Allah a Protector"

So, maybe The Protector is a reference to Allah.

Gedo,

It is difficult to defend Hawiye, I have been doing it for years on Somalinet, a task which earned me good titles and won me many friends here, but still a daunting task to undertake. Thanks saxib Laughing

Did you know people from baydhabo say "Hawiye naareed"?? They must have this verse in mind, they wrongly assumed may be this verse was talking about Hawiye Laughing the pronounciation is close and that is good enough for many to indict hawiye. It is like they are saying in their mind, Allah has condemned this clan so we have best evidence from the Quran Laughing

Samatar

It may appear Niya to be a clanist, but when it comes to women, no matter how much they engage in clan rhetoric, they are mostly uncaring about clan. They excell in the art of putting on a show or react emotionally in places like this, but in real life, it is the man she likes best. If you had a woman in mind who hails from another clan on somalinet, and you saw her write biased comments about other clans, don't be discouraged. The Waaq in that verse has absolutely nothing to do with the ancient Oromo God of Waq.

The translation of that verse goes like:

13:34 For them is a penalty in the life of this world, but harder, truly, is the penalty of the Hereafter: and defender have they none against Allah.

(it translates here as defender or protector).

It is pronounced as the following:

"Lahum AAathabun fee alhayati alddunya walaAAathabu alakhirati ashaqqu wama lahum mina Allahi min waqin"

The Idol worshiping Waaqist are at it again. HavenÂ’t we been up this alley already few times on SÂ’NET. For the last time, Waaqi in Arabic refers to the protector and has nothing to do with Darood love for Idol worshiping, or naming their towns and lineage after the Oromo Waaq idol Gods.
