THE MAREEXAAN SULTANATE THAT RULED NORTHERN SOMALIA.

Post by DawladSade »

Source: Jeffrey Dhahmar

The Mareexaan sultanate occupied the places Sool, Sanaag and Nugaal in the 17/18th century before the emergence of the Majerteen sultanate. By mid-19th century, they only occupied Sool & Sanaag and moved gradually towards south and entered the Jubbas. The reasons why the travellers didn't write much about the 17th and 18th century is that the Mareexaan, whenever a foreigner (non-Somali) set foot on their soil, they immediately killed him Laughing Evidence (see second underlined text);

More on the Historical Mareexaan Noblemen/Warriors. No wonder we brought Islam to the central and south.

Arrow He crossed the country of the Merehan, who are Mohammeden fanatics and glory in killing an infidel. Their country is a tableland, lying between 1500 to 2000 feet above the sea, and covered with a dense grass if mimosas, acacias, and other aromatic and resinous plants---a very "sea of verdure".
