If Aweys had been captured, it would have hit the wire by now. So I am suspect.
As far as GITMO is concerned, the problem with these guys we have detained there is what to do with them. Most of them were captured on some battlefield or other. Most of them are hard line militants. IF we release them, it will be to their home countries. In some cases their own countries don't want them. So there is no place to release them to. In most cases, their home countries will take them and torture and execute them. There is no easy solution because Al Qaeda is fighting a war outside of the boundaries of the state, and the international legal system was not designed to deal with that kind of a problem.
