Musika man has just posted an article about this. It says a Top leader of the UIC has been captured. It doesn't say anything about whether it was Aweys or not.

too much bullshit from amnesty international, Gitmo is like a 5 star hotel now. we built a special detention centre for indhocadde and weis near marko and is off-limits to ngo's.
my sources say it is aweis and sheikh sharif will be confirmed soon.

If Aweys had been captured, it would have hit the wire by now. So I am suspect.
As far as GITMO is concerned, the problem with these guys we have detained there is what to do with them. Most of them were captured on some battlefield or other. Most of them are hard line militants. IF we release them, it will be to their home countries. In some cases their own countries don't want them. So there is no place to release them to. In most cases, their home countries will take them and torture and execute them. There is no easy solution because Al Qaeda is fighting a war outside of the boundaries of the state, and the international legal system was not designed to deal with that kind of a problem.

Apparently. He starts a war and then heads to Mecca? That's whacked. He should have been in Ras Kamboni leading his troops. Sends them to die and leaves???
