Darker Skin Somalis vs Lighter Skin ones ..

Why dark skin Somalis hate on light skin ones?

Some folk (females) go as far as saying things like light skin dudes are useless, soft, not manly enough and all that other crap; And dark skin brothers, well they crack up jokes to a point where things get personal so what is it?

In a serious manner you will barely see a light skin Somali dissing a dark skin one but dark skin Somalis continuously diss their fellow light skin's, why?

Another thing i noticed alot of people take offence when a light skin person or dark says they prefer light skinned but when it comes down to a lighter skin sister preferring a dark skin brother or dark skin sister/brother preferring a dark skin person, he or she will get a metal of honor because he or she has a different preference then the norm

As an individual i find that be biased wale

Answer me this, assuming that all of your are against racism; how can a persons skin complexion can give you a conclusive decision on an indivituals individuality?

The notion that the lighter is always better is something I believe that originates from the colonial ages...

The sayings like " Ilaahi wiil madow II waayow mid cadna ma ii weydey" was to give a moral support to the darker ones....

The Somalis always mentioned light skin to be a part of the girl's beauty...They would say something like this;

Waa gabadh qurux badan oo cad cad cad... oo Carab la moodo...
Waa gabadh fool xun oo madow madow madow oo aad mooddo in mar la cadaabay...

This is a stupid Idea... That is why iminka loo moodo in hablihii Baras ku wada dhacay.... because most of them bleach themselves

Kambuli I totally agree. Light is just associated with beauty and dark skinned with usug and uglyness. Which is soo ludicrous.. That would explain back in somalia girls desperatly trying to bleach themselves.

1nem, what shade are you? You should light skinned , I don't think you should look too into it, its a very childish thing indeed and I doubt theres dramatic competion between the two shades. But your putting alot of the blame on the dark skinned, when alot of light skinned brothers automatically think they have one over the others, like they are superior..

Besides i've only seen Somali women tryng to get lighter while the rest of the world is trying to get darker....

Now I swear, I am not casaan anymore when we go to parties...Simply because 99% of the girls bleached themselves... And what irritates me is when one that I knew back home who used to be very dark has the courage to ask me ' What happened to your colour?....

I am like, I am the same colour, maybe your colour changed....hello...

But honestly, for me colour or features or qabiil do not attract me... What attracts me in a person is their personality....And I am not saying this because I lack beauty etc... But that is who I am....

Kambuli, that is excatly what keeps happened to me. When I went back to somalia, all my cousins just couldnt help themselves when they remarked .. canbaro cadeey maxaa ku haleey, maa europe baa sidas kaa dhigtay? waayo miyaan foolxumaday? Then I hear slight giggles.
Every time I go back its like competiton.. they hate the fact Im natuarlly light almost white.. I tell them to find an carab brother at least thier kids will be light because boi, theres no hope left for them.

Uff, you can tell the ones that bleach themselves though.. the spots and reaction marks due to over-use are a complete give-away!
