'Arab' Africans are better than 'Bantu' Africans? Do you even make a distinction?

Me personally, I am an idealist, and pray for the day when Africans turn to pan-Africanism (NOT the eradication of borders) as a solution. Even though that involves a lot of work.....the idea itself COULD build bridges.....but lets forget that sort of politics for now, lets talk identity politics which very closely linked.

I believe we are all the same, no matter how different we are....my Bushism for the day Smile

GG, there are "Pan-Africanists" of every colour and creed. Black Africans, Indians, Arabs, Whites... what they have in common is a passionate love/hate relationship for the Mother Continent, a desire to see an Africa that is not defined by World Vision ads.

I think Africa's doing a fair bit better than many people think. HIV rates are declining in the countries that pursue aggressive and intelligent prevention/treatment strategies. The economies of quite a few nations are growing at double digit rates. The political scene could be better, but it seems like a few countries have had relatively robust democratic elections lately.

What I'm trying to say is maybe we shouldn't be so negative when we think of Africa, especially Black Africa.

I agree, it isnt as negative as we think, but to face facts, Africa is in pretty dire need of more of these people, and ofcourse less 'foreign' meddling. Its not bleak, but there are so many obstacles ( e.g the way politics is carried out in some African countries) in the way of progression that stops me from hoping too much. Just look at Somalia.....I cant even type the things that we all know are happening, and the reasoning behind them is dangerous.

Its funny you mention the World Vision Ad image of Africa, a much younger classmate asked me the other day why everyone' in Africa was 'dying of hunger'.....and also whether or not 'Africa has internet'...when I told him there was...he said, 'I dont mean South Africa' Sad
