Is Oil greed the reason why Somalis can't let Somaliland go?

Post by Ceelgabo »

Since Abdullahi Yusuf signed away the rights of the oil resources of land that doesn't belong to and withgout consulting the people of that land like the late Said Barre.....is Oil the main reason why rest of former SOmali can't forget Somaliland?

No. Less resource based that viabiltiy issues. There is always the concern that there are untapped resources, of course. But it's more than that.

There's No Oil in Somaliland ? The humanitarian situation in South somali is worse than in Dafur. There's no point if Abdullahi Yousuf likes you or hates you.
I don't think these countries will recover as it is too big this disaster. ...In south somalia there are only poorly equipped Darood and Hawiye ruled by Tigray.

There might be some potential. But frankly, if the potential is there, given that Somaliland has been stable for 15 years, what are the oil companies waiting for? There are companies drilling in shitholes like southern Sudan right now.

I think there is more rumor than substance behind it.

Southern Sudan is part of Sudan...while SOmaliland although not recognized does not consider itself as part of Somalia anymore and if Somaliland gains independence than it overwrite the oil deals Sayed Barre signed with American oil companies. For this reason US has more interest in keeping Somaliland part of SOmalia.

Oil companies have signed contracts to explore SOmaliland, so they haven't stayed away.

Well they haven't been jumping in with both feet either. There are oil companies that work in stateless areas, and I don't see them rushing to Somalia. So whatever potential there is there, it probably isn't big deposits because no one is beating down the doors to get there.

Good link. Thanks.

I think it's clear that while potential exists, that's about the best we can say right now.

How do I phrase this delicately so as not to offend? Fock you and the camel you rode in on, you slimey sand pimp. Ever hear of free speech? I have the right to comment on whatever I want to and if you don't like it you can take a focking hike.

Yes there is Oil in somaliland but only in the the Guban area of the north, particulary the new Sahel and Awdal regions of somaliland where mostly the dhulbaante live who are infact not even issac, but lunucky for isaac, cos isaac have no oil what so ever in their own clan regions.
