where we stand

Post by Ahmed somali »

Where do I stand? What do I possess? Nothing to be proud of. We have taken foreign citizenship through different means. By any means can we feel secure when our lives are in mountains of lies? That everything we claim today is but a fabrication. Many of us have adopted different names than the one given by our parents. We have fake dates of birth. Fake marital status, fake families and fake identities. The young amongst us donÂ’t know of any history and roots at that to fall back to. We despise our culture and everything about our self. We have changed the course of our history. I can not write my language as fluently as I do foreign languages then can I claim to be intellectual. How can we liberate the millions wallowed in an abject poverty when we cannot identify with it. How can I solve my peoples problems when I don not interact with them?
Just as I do we are attracted to foreign culture. For example I can not imagine dating a woman of my origin, why? It is simple; I can no longer feel comfortable with them for the last sixteen years I have tried to get assimilated to the culture of the people who have given me home and hope. I saw my people as barbaric because of what is happening at home but I can continue to ignore it? What will happen when am stripped of my foreign identity where will I fall on? I donÂ’t know even my relatives where will I run to when am left all alone with no roots and no support. Many of us suffer from identity crises out of confusion. I dreamt of leaving my country for tourism and other luxurious events as most people in the rest of the world do but I left because I was not. I have lost trust in my people, coz of their tribal nature. Last I met a young lady and from her dialect I could discern that she was from Puntland but my friend took it as though I wanted to know which tribe she was from? For me Puntland is beautiful region in Somali known for producing frankincense.

From how long can we live in fear? For long can we live faked life? For long can we ignore the reality and continue to live in dream world? Wait and be patience. I lost my patience coz I waited for the single moment when I will reunite with my people and go to our universities to be taught and mentored by Somali intectuals. I appreciate the role they played in mentoring us through their writing. I felt happy when my Professor at Egerton University referred me to work of Nuurudin Farah. Reading the work of Nurradin made me go back home and be nomadic. Marry nomadic woman. I also appreciated the work of Prof Samatar in Political history though I came across his work being mention in some History book. What do we have as role model; warlords and faction Leaders? Everyday young blood is lost without any course because they have known of no other role model than the kings of doom who have destroyed our dreams and continue to destroy the lives of thousands. Can we continue to watch from safe shelter? I really liked an article written by Nurradin in Kenyan newspaper about the history of Maqaldisho (Muqdisho). Me and you in save foreign shelter can access those literature what about the millions who are not lettered? How can we liberate them from ignorance.

Ahmed somali, do something with your life, achieve something tangible. get off welfare, get a real job, a nice wife and few kids, and become an active father and husband, and you don't need to think about what somalis are doing to somalia. if your own life is shit in the west like most somalis, you will be crying like this post. be a man, don't cry and take drastic action on your life. move forward not back.

thank you.we all need to share the vision of great somali not the vision of tribal warlords.we need to tell the world what we stand for so that we are honoured rather than live in capativity.
