10yr jail term in US for Female Genital Mutilation!

Why are they crying like he is on death row --the worst thing that can happen to him is to be fired from his job after no call no show --or even worst getting raped in Jail by Ali-papa.
But he can take appeal --after a couple years they will properly gonna let him out by four or five years!
