Somalia's Hope For Peace Fades!
So, is this what Abdullahi has strived for 40 years? Through treachery, murder & walordism, is this his greatest aspiration? To become the "President" of a country whose capital he can not even settle in?
BRAVO Abdullahi for the destruction, mayhem & treachery you've besieged upon millions of Somalis!

MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) - Clutching a handful of possessions, Yonis Nor fled the Somali capital with his eight children and hundreds of other families, seeking safety from the daily onslaught of mortar and rocket attacks that have left dozens dead.
Somali government forces and Ethiopian troops exchanged heavy fire overnight with insurgents, leaving 15 dead and another 45 injured in the heaviest fighting so far this year in Mogadishu.
Among those killed in the clashes on Tuesday were a four-year-old boy and a pregnant woman. A 12-year-old girl lost both her legs in a blast, doctors said.
During a lull in Tuesday's fighting, families began fleeing Mogadishu in cars or on foot, while pulling carts heaped with mattresses, water containers and plastic sheeting.
"We cannot keep our children in this violent situation," said Yonis, 40. "I am scared."
Insurgents have staged near-daily attacks, with Mogadishu's civilian population bearing the brunt.
In the last three weeks, 51 people have been killed and more than 100 wounded. Ethiopian troops, largely seen as an occupying Christian force, have been accused of indiscriminate attacks against civilian-populated areas. Ethiopia and Somalia have also fought two wars, the last in 1977, when the Somali army suffered a catastrophic defeat.
Doctors are 'overwhelmed'
Doctors say the fighting has overwhelmed them. "We are struggling to cope," Medina Hospital Dr Dahir Mohamed said, as the wounded were being moved to corridors because there were no beds for them. "If the violence continues we will run out of medicines."
Hopes were fading fast that the interim administration would be able to quell the unrest, with growing calls for a broad-based, new government supported by all segments of society. A new government crackdown against local media has also fuelled resentment and mistrust.
Three Ethiopian and Somali government barracks and the presidential palace and seaport were targeted in the overnight attacks, before Ethiopian troops returned fire.
Deputy defence minister Salad Ali Jelle told the AP that one government soldier was killed in the latest attack, and said Islamic extremists allied to the ousted group were targeting civilians.
"They came up with strategies in which they pay a $100 to everyone who attacks Ethiopians and government troops," he said by telephone.
On Monday, a Somali government anti-terror unit trained by Ethiopian troops went into operation to quell the growing unrest.

Assalamu Caleykum All.
It really is a sad day when we Somalis are an occupied country and most of us are still pointing the finger at each other...to the habasha we are an owned country, it matters not whether one is Hawiya or Daarood.

e!
The ICU may have been many things, but they knew how to kick mooryaan @ss and maintain peace in Mogadishu. I had the fortune of visiting Mogadishu & Marka in July '06 during the ICU days...

You haven’t been here long enough to make that kind of statement. When predators come and knock your door, you won’t be playing nice mediator anymore. By the way has anyone figured out your clan yet, just by using your posting?

Dude, the president is not the one who created the shytaan clan who live there. On the other hand, I see what you mean; his effort to turn them in to human has met bumpy road. He is not using the kind of language they understand, flatten shaytaans cribs, plant human race. I feel sorry for him. He yet has to civilize them too. Successful or not the man deserved the noble peace price.

How many times have I told you guys, the ICU was not going to be permitted to take control of Somalia? How many times have I told you guys that the ICU was asking for trouble by irritating its neighbors? How many times have I told you guys the only way Somalia will have peace is to renounce iiredentist claims? How many times have I told you guys that an anti-American government in Somalia won't stand?
Every time people like Salahudin told me "we will have an Islamic government in Somalia, and there is nothing you can do about it."
Now you see what can be done about it. Are you just being deliberately obtuse here? Let me tell you one more time, we may not be able to impose a government of our own desire in Somalia, but we sure as hell can keep the place a disaster. Islamic governance will not be allowed in Somalia in the near future. Period. We get a vote, and so do the Ethiopians, whether you like it or not, there is nothing you can do about it.

Re: Somalia's Hope For Peace Fades!
But Mow, you have to analyze why that is. Ten yeas ago America would not have much cared. But now Islamic governance is equated with anti-American governance and the use or subsidy of non-state violence to coerce. America is sick of it. We're fed up. We have reached the point where we have said "you're going to do things our way, or nobody gets nothing." And we have the power to make that happen. We can destroy your societies and turn them all into little Somalias. And if sufficiently provoked we'll do it. We are sick and tired of Islam this and Islam that. These whack jobs are bent on destroying our way of life. You know full well, as do we, that their intent is global in nature. They will never stop, unless the level of pain within their own societies reaches a level that your own populations simply do not tolerate their existence. This is slowly, but inexorably, becoming a war of survival, ours against yours. And you can be sure if it comes down to that, it's going to be ours. Only the Muslims themselves can put this genie back in the bottle. Either you control your extreme elements, or we will. And you won't like how we do it.
Now normally, we might be able to ignore you. But the global economy depends on oil from the middle east. The Islamists want to use this tool to coerce the west and break it's economic, political and military power. And they want to do that, because they fear that people like you will become more liberal in their outlook. And they despise that. Therefore, our way of life can not exist as an alternative. In their minds, our way of life is not legitimate, and therefore we can not be allowed to make that choice. Re-establishing the Caliphate, uniting Muslims under one banner, is only their first step in an attempt to replace American power with Islamic power. And the Islamists will be fascist in their manner of doing that. Therefore, they must be stopped at all costs.

Re: Somalia's Hope For Peace Fades!
The reason we supported the Ethiopians is because it costs us nothing. Somalis have deluded themselves into thinking the US is pouring huge amounts of money into Ethiopia to help it. The reality is, we provide about as much aide annually in Ethiopia as we spend over the course of one half of one day in Iraq. So at very little cost, we were able to thwart the Islamists from getting a foothold there. And the big reason we care is we want to make sure the Islamists have no safe haven anywhere in the world. No place where they can feel truly safe to gether and train. Where they always have to exert engery and resources on operational security. This minimizes their efficiency.

Re: Somalia's Hope For Peace Fades!
No. The fight will never end. The only way we can destroy Islamic extremism is to kill all the Muslim in the world. Which we could do if pressed, but it would be ugly for everyone. Unless it comes down to a nuclear attack in the US, I think that outcome is unlikely. More likely is that this fight, in its current dimension, goes on and on for decades. We will simply continue to find the extremists and kill them whenever and wherever we can, and the extremists will continue to attack Western and moderate Muslim interests wherever they can, and that will be the natural order of things. In short, the conflict between the west and Islam will be a larger, less intense version of the conflict between the Palestinians and the Israelis. A ceaseless fight.
