"The Italians carefully avoided committing themselves to one side or the other. The Mijertein Somalis continued to prove troublesome, as they engaged in their customary practices of raiding Obbia, smuggling guns from Djibouti to Alula, and engaging in acts of piracy on the seas as far as Socotra" [Memorandum from British Charge d'affairs to the Foreign Minister, Rome, 14 September 1900]

I could believe reading this same incidents happening again. The piracy took place at Caluula(Alula) in 1897. Laughing Laughing

Cool

Awesome. Who wants to read in the history books that the colonizers thought our ancestors were cooperative and helpful?

Damn, where is Socotra by the way?

http://www.maplandia.com/yemen/former-s ... n/socotra/ That is probably where the ship is now floating somewhere between Alula and Socotra. They are going to get released after they make sure they get all that they get.

"submissive" is for the subjugated. MJ were not subjugated but they had sultanates. The Italiains were in the dillema to support either Kenadiid or Cisman Moxamoud but decided to take neither side.
