Somali culture in Britain

Hi, can anyone explain to me exactly what it is about living in Britain (or any other Western society for that matter) that seems to have affected many Somalis views on traditional cultural practices, such as fgm? I am writing my dissertation on fgm, but am starting to discover that Somalis in Britain are more likely to turn against fgm than other aspects of Somnali culture. This might sound over-simplified, but can anyone give me info on how living in Britian has affected their culture?

ummm wat do i think... i think its barbaric..! i mean to the ppl who've had it done in the past... thats the past...whats done is done...

walahi everythings so westernised nowadays and dhaqans going downhill but it dont mean we have to stick to barbaric cultural trends...u say in 'Britain' but theres a lot more far worse countries... but its to do with the individual not the a whole country.
