(SomaliNet) The tension is high in the Somalia capital Mogadishu as people fear more war is possible at anytime after yesterday’s meeting between senior Ethiopian military officials and the traditional elders of Hawiye tribe ended in deadlock.
The Ethiopian officials told the elders its troops would launch massive house to house operation in the capital in search of weapons and remnants of the ousted Islamists.
“We are ready to fight at all costs if the Ethiopians decided to attack Hawiye tribe,†Ahmed Dirie, among the Hawiye elders told the local media. “The Ethiopians informed us that Hawiye give the forces access to track down members of the Islamic Courts searching every house and we see that as clear aggression against our people,â€
The Ethiopian government suspect that senior members of the ousted Islamists remain in the capital.
Sources at the failed meeting say that the Ethiopian military officers indicated that they are not going to kill Hawiye people but hunting down particular persons suspected to have links with the ousted Islamic movement.
War is inevitable in the Somalia capital Mogadishu at any time between the Ethiopian forces and insurgents as both sides are receiving reinforcement troops.
The largest number of families with their belongings are now fleeing the capital to escape the shelling. The fear follows the news of meeting’s failure.
