2,000 troops could hold out a long time. The Ethiopians could resupply at night by air. The Stadium is located close to 21 October Road. It would be childs play for a force that large, with armor and artillery and close air support to break out. So either this is typical Somali hyperbole (say it isn't so) or the Ethiopians are totally incompetent - which would beg the question how did they defeat the ICU in the field in the first place.

The Ethiopian army is incompetent. They're nothing but bunch of poorly trained, underpaid, unmotivated, malnourished soldiers who have no body armour nor helmets ( most of them are not wearing helmets believe it or not ). The Ethiopian army is basically a large clan militia. The only advantage they have is old rusty soviet era armor, and numbers. The Hawiye in muqadisho have numbers since thousands of angry gunmen are joining the fight, and those few rusty soviet era tanks could be taken care of by good old bazuukas.

MadMac the Ethiopian army got to MOG very quickly coz they had traitors on their side, and the majority of the UIC underwent a critical transformation .They simply morphed into the local civ pop.
The Mog citizens didn't really know what to make of the TFG in the beginning. Slowly but surely CY showed his true colours and started losing the critical Hawiye support he had in his administration.
The US military can't friggin' hold Baghdad , what do you think the ethiopians can do in MOG.
