Back in the days, when we were in Somalia, we didn't have such things like depression and if we did, it was rare. Depression is a strong mood involving sadness, discouragement, despair, or hopelessness that lasts for weeks, months, or even longer, and interferes with a person's ability to participate in their normal activities.
Only in America where we get to make it a big deal. You'll see grown Somali women running to the doctor and asking for prescription calaacal'ing "Waar dhiibreeshan baa ii haaya ee ii daaweya." Car hadeey Somalia joogi lahaayen 'Dhiibreeshan' kama maqli laheyn. Dadkaan waxeey rabaan bey kaa dhaadhicinayan walle iyo bille.
Depression kulahaa.... HA!!!!

Re: Depression kulahaa.... HA!!!!

Kitteneey, depression is a something that human beings encounter once in their lifetime. As you said, in Somalia, nobody seeks any help or sees a doctor because of depression. This does not mean that Somalis dont get depressed, but in a Islamic way of life or as a Muslim person, we should be satisfactory for what Allah has given us and be happy with it even if it turns out to be something we do not like it. So the remedy of depression is patience (Dulqaad/Sabir) and praying for Allah (swt) because a Muslim person should not give up the mercy/hope of Allah..
If you see any Faarax or Haliimo planning to see a doctor because of that, ku dheh Dulqaata, Illaahna barya si uu dhibka hayo uga qaado.
