The coup attempt was late 1960 when the experiencd and sandhurst trained somaliland millitary officers were , has Southern Italian trained Police offciers promoted over them.

if only they tryed the coup a year later after the 61 elections and the Wanla weyn incident, they would have had support from the public and succeeded.

Firstly, that failed coup toke place late 1961 and not 1962 as stated by Manaking or late 1960 as mentioned by gurey. Secondly, the reason why that coup failed was because the Northern Somalis strongly opposed the attempt and praised the Somali military in crushing it. Thirdly, if that coup d'etat had succeeded, the Northern Somalis would swiftly destabilize the whole region to demonstrate that they are not in favour of this coup.
