Amid the Ethiopian empowered interim government's victory claims over the local insurgents in eight days of nonstop street fighting in Somalia capital, there are still doubts of insurgence counter attacks. Islamist fighters say they will never give up their struggle with what they called Ethiopian occupiers, according to sources close to the Somali Jihadists.
One of the Islamist fighters from Salahu-diin brigade who took part in the recent battle and declined to be named told Somalinet that they were not defeated in the eight-day war of Mogadishu but made a technical retreat due to orders from their commanders.
“My spirit of engaging war with the infidels again is still high as it was before because I believe that Almighty Allah will reward me with paradise if I die for defending the religion of Islam, I will hold the gun as long as our historical enemy of Ethiopians stay in our soil,†added the Islamist.
I wanted to sacrifice my life in the war with the Ethiopians he said but that did not happen except receiving slight injury.
“Most of our fighters in the capital are in good spirit and we have changed the strategy of our struggle against the occupation to hit and run attacks on the enemy positions,†he said. “We hid our weapons and are setting new plans to face the occupiers,â€
On Monday, the Ugandan army commander who was visiting Mogadishu warned of resumption of the local insurgents saying it is too early to claim victory over the Islamist remnants.
The Islamist fighter who is in his 20s further stated that the guns of Muslims will never stop shots unless Ethiopians and their puppets leave the country and people practice Islam. He declined to mention the number of their fighters killed in the recent clashes with the Ethiopians.
