Published on: 2008-07-21 03:36:50

(SomaliNet) Nigerian supporters of Democratic White House hopeful Barack Obama have joined forces to lobby their relatives and friends in the United States to vote for him in November\'s presidential election.

\"Obama is 50 percent African and 50 percent American. We are here to share in his happiness and woes. This time around we must share in his future,\" said Ndi Okereke-Onyiuke, leader of \'Africans for Obama,\' late Friday.

Okereke-Onyiuke said the group aimed to raise awareness and mobilise black voters behind the candidacy of Obama, the son of a Kenyan father and white US mother.

Okereke-Onyiuke specifically appealed to Nigerians to send phone and text messages to their relations and friends in the United States to register and vote massively for the 46-year-old Illinois senator on November 4.

\"Our message is unambiguous, they should vote for the positive change the America needs. It will be a positive change for America and Africa,\" she added.-AFP
