(SomaliNet) The department of foreign affairs said on Thursday, two South Africans, who had been held hostage by Nigerian militants, have been released to Nigerian authorities.
Spokesperson Ronnie Mamoepa said, the South African High Commissioner to Nigeria, Stix Sifingo, had confirmed the release of the two South Africans who had been abducted in the Niger Delta a week ago.
They were handed over to the Nigerian authorities earlier on Thursday, around 12:20am local time, Mamoepa said.
It was suspected that the two would be handed over to a South African diplomat later.
Their families had been duly informed about their release.
Mamoepa could not confirm the names of the two people released.
