(SomaliNet) Zimbabwe\'s opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai was fleeing from soldiers when he sought refuge in the Dutch Embassy in Harare, Senegal\'s president said.
Senegalese President Abdoulaye Wade made the comment in a statement released late on Monday about his attempts to mediate in the Zimbabwean crisis.
The Senegalese leader says he had hoped to persuade President Robert Mugabe and Tsvangirai to share power but the chances of that, he said, were slim.
He says soldiers \"went after\" Tsvangirai at the opposition leader\'s home and the MDC leader was only able to escape to the embassy because he was warned minutes before the soldiers arrived on Sunday.
Tsvangirai had announced earlier on Sunday that he was pulling out of a presidential run-off election with Mugabe scheduled for Friday. - Sapa-AP
